The true tragedy occurs on Sunday night.... interweaving the three previous hours of chaos as the classes glide to their destiny. Does the boat sink? Does it survive? (No spoilers please!) It'll be fun if he includes the Downton Abbey mystery Crawleys, one of whom is betrothed to Lady Mary, if not the other cute mystery other-associated Crowley to the plain sister. Downton writer Fellowes wrote this, so this thing’s going to be fun. Or stultifyingly boring. I won't watch it until the 15th, when the ship got real 100 years ago that night. Some of the story lines are SO VERY contrived, just as theatrical as Cameron's glurge love story. It did however give a pretty accurate representation to what I have come to understand were the class-related taboos and rules of etiquette at the time. Then it lost all credibility when I saw "S S Titanic" painted on the lifeboats. Such a shameful and unavoidable error.

Having the title "RMS" was seen as a mark of quality and a competitive advantage, because the mail had to be on time. In the 1860 CDSPCo contract there was a penalty clause of £1 1s 4d for every minute's delay. The White Star Line sisters RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic were Royal Mail Ships. S.S. stands for Steam Ship and is the internationally accepted standard for a steam driven vessel as was RMS Titanic. The Lifeboats would carry SS rather than RMS because there MIGHT have been a later cruise when Titanic was NOT under Royal Contract to carry the mail. Having all three eps back-to-back made the time shifts a little confusing, but they made it fairly easy to follow. And correct me if I'm wrong, but in at least a couple cases where they showed the same scene from different perspectives, did bits and pieces of the dialogue change slightly?

Painted with perhaps too broad a brush so far, and I'm still waiting for a duplicitous footman to steal some jewelery or something, but it's holding my interest. The stewardess to the servants is as cute as a button, and as it turns out will be the new Dr. Who sidekick. Also, this is the first time I knew the Law & Order DA is a Brit -- seeing him as Lord whatshisface is a little disconcerting.
