Well, tonight the bat was used to connect Colton's hypocritical "I don't believe in hand-outs" speech to the tribe that gave him the idol, Salani. I loved the edit because it was very ambivalent -- did the bat refer to Colton or Salani? I think the latter because it looks like the bat is being used as a comeback symbol and it's associated with Salani. Based on the bat, a Salani member wins this season. Plus, the Chelsea/chicken imagery continues -- she referred to the losing guys as running around like "chickens with their heads cut off." How's that for a prediction? lol

Kat wrapped up in her hoodie is like a little bat wrapping itself up in its wings. The screen caps are in order as we came back from the commercial - First the group of bats - Then the women's tribe walking back from the challenge - Then Christina - is she a bat? Oh my God! There's our B-A-T! I mean boat. Only one letter off - coincidence? I think not! Kim and Monica - could they be two Batgirls? Alicia has a bat's nest going on in her hair - Fire represents life. Who knew? Kat the Bat!

Those damn bats are everywhere. I was hoping they were vampire bats and would become the trademark animal for Leif being as he drains blood for a living. But the bats look like they are thriving in Samoa and are shown with the women so I support your theory that they spell doom for Manono.

I still think Chelsea will prevail. Update:...Now that there is a sudden swap coming up, there will be new members of Salani which will include men. And who will work with the enemy" proceeded by a shot of Colton with Michael in the background, then a shot of bats hanging on a tree, and finally the bats flying.

I think if they base imagery on anything, it's the most familiar associations that most viewers would have. Bats... the main associations are "batty" and "blind". every time I see them on the show this season, I think they're implying some kind of blindness or battiness to what's going on. I think the Eastern thing was meant as a joke, but no way are they basing imagery on esoteric stuff. The chicken thing is kinda fun, tho. Chelsea-wise. especially after Matt's 'rooster' episode, and also the men being denied the first chickens. Then Troy catching one this time, while Monica/Alicia almost catch one, then it mysteriously gets away, followed by one of Colton's horrid SPVs about how they don't know how to play Survivor. Imagery in editing is fun.

No bats this time but the swimming whale seems to be an alternate symbol for the new & improved Salani tribe. The whale, like the bat, is a sign of regeneration and good luck.
