Bill - Read treemail, made a comment about the challenge.

Colton - Elaborates on his personal reasons for prefering the women over the men, after some encouragement (being shooed away twice) decides he will create some bonds with his tribemates, at least for the time being, states that his strategy requires being allied with women, is acknowledged as a possible threat by Jonas and Sabrina.
Despite being naturally OTT, has an high amount of personal development, we know more about who he is and what his longterm gameplans are. Matt and Alicia who showed zero insight were rated CP simply because they started an alliance, so for that alone Colton should be CP this episode.

Jay - One confessional about the reward challenge.

Jonas - Much as i hate to jump into bandwagons, his edit is much more consistent that most of the male tribe, most visible male (with the exception of Colton), there is a clear impression that this is someone we should pay attention to.
Not really enough content for a MOR but if you ignore Colton and rate him not within the episode but within the male tribe, even in a direct comparison with Colton, only within the male tribe (Colton's interaction with the women is ignored in this scenario), he looks very good.

Leif - Two lines of dialogue, the second being a three word short sentence repeated twice.

Matt - Talked during the IC.

Michael - Another edit that stands out in the underdeveloped male tribe. Since he had some facetime talking with the girls when they returned from TC, his confessional about the reward looks like it was placed there to make him more visible, also we have a scene of him interacting with Jonas (sideshow Bill was present but either didn't talk or what he said was edited out), one of only two scenes of interaction within the male tribe in this episode.

Tarzan - Crazy dance, the girls make fun of him, jazz fingers, demoted from class clown to team mascot.

Troyzan - The two new confessionals in the intro stand out. Is important enough to get a confessional about the alliance. Instead of bumping his visibility i opted to bump his rating, again if you look at his edit in comparison with the rest of the tribe, even with very low visibility, there is more content in his edit that in that of the five low/non visibility others.

Alicia - A few insults, some lazy behaviour, partner in crime of the villain of the episode.

Chelsea - I considered giving her CP because i bumped some of the ratings for the men, but in the end decided not to, the only difference in her edit and Troyzan's come from the fact that she had to go to TC, notice that Kat's shenanigans were there the whole episode but, we only see her adressing the issue after Nina talks to her. Her reasons for wanting to keep Nina don't warrant a CP for me, she wasn't doing it to help the tribe or help herself, it was just a question of Nina “deserving” to be there more than Kat, not really insightful.

Christina - Tried to smooth things with Alicia, but in the recap we only see her outburst, slight P and slight N so i decided not to give any tone, i was surprised at her VF because i barely noticed her in the episode, but it was probably boosted up by her talking in the IC.

Kat - The only reason i don't rate her as NN is because afair no one as given anyone an NN rating since i joined edgic, if Brandon's rapist episode last season didn't warrant a NN, i guess Kat is just N, all the episode was about how much of an idiot she is, the fire scene, the bananas scene, the bathing while others are working scene, blowing the challenge, the fart, a disgrace to women, the TC, that extremely hipocritical statement when voting, dumb beyond words.

Kim - Not the leader, but clearly second-in-command, even though i rated them the same, i thought she was more complex than Chelsea, she was the only person besides Sabrina who understood the danger of having Colton around all the time, she explained why they should keep Kat even though she is an useless idiot.

Monica - Her performance in the IC raised her stock a lot, she got a subtitled compliment from Sabrina in the IC, was smart enough not to try swimming against he current (pushing to vote out Kat), is aware of her standing in the tribe, but knows that trying to impreove her situation the wrong way may be detrimental, so chooses to hold back and wait for an opening.

Nina - Scrambling to save your ass is OTT, but OTTM would make it look like she was all over the place which was not the case, there's clear P manipulation, mentions of her job, life experience and skills, Chelsea and Kim admit she probably deserves to stay more than Kat does, we know she' is absolutely right about Kat being deadweight, but on the other hand she is going about it the wrong way, it was a mistake to target Kat, Monica chose to vote against Christina who is also on the outs and has a public feud with Alicia, while Nina stubbornly still targeted Kat, was she a one note oversimplified caricature? I don't think she was, we got to know her as a person and we knew the reasons why she was targetting Kat, but she couldn't see past the obvious so it was not an high complexity edit

Sabrina - Looked like a narator most of the time, but she is narrating events that aren't finished yet and that she has the power to change, so it's not so much narration as thinking out loud and letting us knows what is going through her head.

Recognized the danger of having Colton around all the time, and recognizes him as a possible threat because he has connections in both tribes.

It's unclear to me weather the exchange between her and Monica in the IC was about how good Monica did or about her leadership skills, or even both.

Manono again almost ignored, which makes curious about the ones who get the most attention in the Manono tribe, Jonas, Michael and Troy in that order are the best edits, granted everything they say is fluff, but they could distribute the fluff evenly and if they aren't doing it there has to be a good reason.

Then we have Colton a very high visibility character, the next episode should be interesting because if he gets less airtime now that he has found his space in his own tribe, then we will know that the endgamers will come from Salani.

Salani is looking very bad, keeping Kat looked like an awful decision, but will they pay for it or will their luck change?

When Chelsea and Kim were talking on the beach, Chelsea say something like, how about voting out Kat and replacing her with...and the scene was cut, this has to be foreshadowing for Monica getting a spot in the alliance, the question is will she replace Kat of with she be added as a sixth?

I mean, I'm one of the people who has been black-listed but I don't even know why, especially since I seldom post in Edgic. Phoenix, I have no idea why you're being a catty, spiteful individual who is upset her formulas for finding winners never work. I don't even POST winner contenders like you all do since I don't think a winner's edit is as cut and dry of having a "CP4-MOR3" start in ratings. The principle of this matter is all wrong and it shows that Phoenix is, for some reason, on a power trip because she feels she's on the upper hierarchy of Edgicians, which is laughable considering her past of choosing winners.

I feel like when you start restricting OTHERS from posting in Edgic, you're just going to end up with a bias (group think runs strong in Edgic) and corruption. This is obviously backlash of you guys not picking Sophie as a winner pick and anyone who paid attention last season could tell Sophie had winner potential from episode 1 and her edit continued to grow stronger. It's not MY fault that you guys missed the mark. But spoilers had nothing to do with that.

I've been posting in Edgic since around Fiji and I'm NOT going to let you stop me from posting here. The problem you guys have are with winner contenders and their stories and anyone who happen to be correct (like Sophie supporters) are ignored. I have NO idea how Phoenix got put in head position on Edgic or how she has the right to restrict people to not post in Edgic (is this the Apartheid?) but I mean, if I posted 943984329 Excel formula spreadsheets that sometimes group winners together but never really work, then I guess I could become Queen of Edgic too.

First of all, that list cannot possibly be a list of all the people who have read threads in the Spoilers forum. Maybe it's a list of people who have both posted in Edgic and in Spoilers, but why should those people be excluded but not the ones who post in Edgic but LURK in Spoilers? Surely anyone with the ability to read would be spoiled as well...posting in Spoilers is not a prerequisite for reading Spoilers.

That said, THERE ARE NO SPOILERS THIS SEASON. None whatsoever. This "flight five" bullshit is not a spoiler. And even if it was, it would have no bearing on winner picks because ANYONE WHO IS BEING CONSIDERED A CONTENDER AT THIS POINT IS BEING CONSIDERED AS SUCH BASED ON THEIR EDIT, NOT BASED ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY MAY BE ONE OF THE "MYSTERIOUS" FIGURES ON A FUCKING LIST WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE TRUE.

Yes. It won't solve the ENTIRE problem, but at least part of it.

idk, given how vague the spoilers are, I don't think it needs that much fanfare... however, I'm fairly certain phoenix will make sure the people on this list will get BANNED if they keep speculating here, so they should know that they cannot spec.

Again, this is ONLY temporary (around the merge? F12?) and ONLY affects winner spec/contenders. Everything else is unaffected.

After observing for a long while, I'll find try my hand at edgic.

Alicia --- OTTN3 --- Purely lazy and entirely bitchy, I'm sure her antics would have been more visible if it wasn't for Kat.

Bill --- UTR1 --- His reading of the treemail was not a charming as people are making it out to be. That's all.

Chelsea --- MOR3 --- Reasonable, but not particularly complex, seemed to just be reiterating what we know and listening.

Christina --- MOR2 --- Didn't do much in this episode except for some brief narrations

Colton --- OTTN5 --- Unlike Cochran's edit, I feel like we are supposed to hate him.

Jay --- UTR1 --- Challenge narration, would have been INV otherwise.

Jonas --- MOR2 --- I'm still waiting on something personal from him. I'm wondering if his comments about Colton could be building to something beyond the "Misfits" alliance.

Kat --- OTTN5 --- She farted on someone. She controls the fire, she's the fire person.

Kim --- CP2 --- Aware of presence. Despite being lower key, still showed more complexity than Chelsea.

Leif --- UTR1 --- Don't remember a thing about him in this episode.

Matt --- UTR1 --- Not INV, he was definitely supposed to be the periphery focus of that scene when Colton was on the swing. This is a borderline call.

Michael --- MOR3 --- His edit is confusing me, but I watched carefully and I wasn't feeling much tone manipulation

Monica --- MORP3 --- I feel like we are supposed to feel like she is rational and a team player. They even made sure to show us that she was thanked after the IC.

Nina --- CPN5 --- She had a lot to say, but everything about her struggles in the episode felt so futile, I wanted to eyeroll.

Sabrina --- CPP5 --- I'm feeling P because I'm feeling some intentional shielding from the building Salani negativity despite being the leader. She could easily have become a caricature, but she hasn't.

Tarzan --- UTR1 --- I'm sorry, but I feel like a low visibility OTT is possible for edgic, but it wasn't him, it just didn't have enough "umph".

Troyzan --- MOR2 --- I felt his presence in the episode, but it was mostly inconsequential.

Just because he's talking strategy doesn't mean he's a complex player - especially not when he's talking about getting out of the misfit alliance and talking about how it's Colton's island 10 minutes after sobbing because he was bullied by all the players.
Greg --> UTR1: I'm offended by the notion of OTT1, so. Greg was not subtitled or shown in any way really beyond "Tarzan's naked"
Jay --> UTR1: A throw-away confessional during the middle of the challenge. This should have dropped his chances in everyone's books.
Jonas --> MOR2: Interesting positioning for himself, but I don't think he's really had that much actual content that related to the storyline. Sushi chef hasn't come into anything at all, and that's really the only thing we know about Jonas on a personal level via any sort of insight. I think people will start to draw comparisons to Sophie which will be wrong because he shows no real awareness of why people are doing what they're doing and how it affects them.
Katrina --> OTTM5: She was soo viciously negative but then was redeemed somewhat at Tribal Council. The pile-on was not edited in a flattering light. We also heard Sabrina praising her "good energy". I think she's a long term player and I'm definitely not eliminating her fully, but I think she's not got a great chance to win.
Kim --> MOR2: People are acting like Chelsea had a way better edit but Kim got some insight at Tribal Council and also had an important scene with Colton. Staying present in the tribe dynamic but not being too attached to anything or central to the plot is important pre-merge for low-vis female winners, and that's what she has been so far.
Leif --> UTR1: Chad Crittenden returns <3
Matt --> UTR1: He can be eliminated based on this ep.
Michael --> MOR3: Michael's edit is really boring and not that important to the plot. He's playing the role of a narrator but there is some content to it. I'm watching him, but kind of like Kat: he seems to be important in the long-run.
Monica --> CPP3: She had two confessionals showing lots of awareness about her position, explaining her actions (or lack thereof), and got focus she didn't need to. There are three members of the minority alliance, and Christina's edit went largely untended. I think for Monica, if she's not being set up as a martyr for the women being disasters, this was a good edit for her long-term prospects.
Sabrina --> CP5: I'm a little annoyed both by the MORs and the fact that people are eliminating her. Have we learned nothing from Rob winning Redemption Island? High impact, high-visibility players can win. Sabrina is the leader of a tribe that's been disastrous, and yet is still being edited in a sympathetic light. I think they're trying to protect her from the negativity of Salani so there can be redemption for the women later. Sabrina's articulate and playing a central role in the plot, and I think this could explain her visibility. Second highest contender for me.
Troyzan --> UTR2: Unimportant, throwaway stuff. I don't think his edit is terrible for a man, but I'm pretty convinced a woman wins considering the neglect of the men's tribe this episode and the negativity last episode.

Kat, "Where is everyone? Are we in so much trouble because we're not doing anything?"

Alicia, "I don't know. I don't know what is going on!"

Tree mail + a comment about how useful the tarp will be when it starts to rain.

Bill is what is known as a spear-carrier in opera. One of the minor characters standing around holding a spear, while the story goes on around them.

Chelsea CP3

*She's an "obviously" strong woman. Her character being constantly defined in this way is one reason she doesn't move up on my contender list.

I already posted my reasons for giving her a CP.

This subtitled comment also bothered me:

To Kat after losing the IC: "It's definitely the boobs are hard."

I understand that, on the surface, this is a scene of her trying to make Kat feel better. (It may also be an inside joke about Monica's implants, since Kat complained about them when trying to get around her.)

But, it's also a lame excuse for losing.

Nina, "We didn’t lose. We got our ass kicked. Wasn’t even close. And everyone’s like ‘Oh Kat, you did so good...’

What bothers me most about Chelsea's character is that she is almost too good a winner: strong, capable, attractive, and smart.

Since the start of Ep1, "the obvious", "the expected", has been set up to be taken by surprise and tripped-up.

In her only confessional, she again reminds us, "I'm one of the strongest people on the tribe."

*I think the obvious, young, strong, and confident standout characters in the season are the one's most likely to be red-flagged.

Christina MORN3

She's getting negative SPV from OTTN Alicia and OTTN Kat. That should negate some of the N rating, but she lacks any real P to totally compensate.

After her opening scene with Alicia, it's Alicia who gets to sneer and tear her up. We get no confessional from Christina.

At TC, Sab calls her out for not challenging Kat's "under the bus" comment and labels it one of the big reasons for the tribe's dysfunction.

We know Christina is playing the game.

"I was so into the challenge...We have to win this."

Yet, the edit is showing that her interpersonal strategy is not working.

Sab at TC, "...The difference between men and women...We're tiptoeing and tap dancing...A man woulda called another man out and they woulda dealt with it and the end of it. No more beef."

*The edit is showing Christina's strategy of negotiating and appeasement as weak and ineffective.

Colton CPN5

This may be another close call.

Yes, I agree that his nastiness, smugness, laziness, cattiness, and weeping are OTT.

Colton, “I have nothing in common with the guys. We all have an extra appendage. That’s the only thing I have in common with these people. But, going over to the girls is kinda like, it’s a release for me, because it’s like, ‘God, at least I have people I can relate to and talk to and, you know, find common ground with. I love the girls more than anybody on this island.”

This comment is very CP and will probably explain a lot of his actions in the future, as the women continue to push him away.

Colton, "...I literally feel like I need to like, find a spot on the island, just build my own little hut and live there and just be my own little tribe. Like, the Colton Tribe or something. All I know’s it’s day four and I’m just gonna, I guess I’m gonna have to keep digging deep and to go over there. I feel like in order for me to make a move I honestly do believe I have to have some girls. That’s…case in point.”

This is an OTT character, who is a walking time bomb.

But, these are still very CP comments. We need to acknowledge this in our charting.

Think of looking back for charting info in past seasons and have a string of OTTs, when a character was also given meaningful complexity in some of those OTT episodes.

Another CP comment:

Colton, " ...Seriously, I would never talk to these people outside this game, but, I mean, it’s Survivor. You have to do what you have to do...."

Even this SPV builds Colton's character beyond just a simple OTT drama queen:

Jonas, “Colton reaches into his bag and he’s got this frickin’ idol. So, Colton went from the first guy to get voted out to now the ringleader, and, I mean I KNEW the kid was, a freak of nature as far as like, the kid is ridiculously smart.”

Colton, "...But, going over to the girls is kinda like, it’s a release for me, because it’s like, ‘God, at least I have people I can relate to and talk to and, you know, find common ground with. I love the girls more than anybody on this island.”

*These complex statements show Colton as a dangerous and potentially powerful time bomb, especially for the women.

Jonas to Mike and Bill, "He's got the girls like putty in his hands. If we're down in numbers, (snick!, throat-cut motion), we're done, bro! He's workin' the girls!" (Shot of Mike and Bill sizing Colton up.)

But they both add more to Colton's character, rather than Jonas'.

They are similar to the confessional Kourtney was given in Ep1, with her insights about how women operate.

They do show Jonas as the most aware character on the men's tribe.

Kat OTTN5

There is some sympathy added to Kat's character this ep.

But, overwhelmingly, she is painted in a very negative light.

Though she makes this magnanimous comment at TC:

Jeff, "...would it be fair to vote you out?"

Kat, "Absolutely...but hope they...keep me around, so I can show them, 'I'm learnin'.'..."

She then immediately calls Christina out with the line, "I'm not callin' anyone out...".

Kim CP3

Like Chelsea, I've already explained why I think she is CP.

She still comes in as my #1 pick, because she is still in the shadows.

Jeff, "Kim, what do you bring into this game? What can help right now from your life?"

Kim, "I think I'm a good communicator and I feel that's something that we need. But, I don't think there's a place for my voice yet."

She isn't the out-front golden girl, like Chelsea. Yet, when she speaks it is some of the best content of any character this season.

*Being in the background is the best place for any of the women at this point, when the story is telling us that the original decision to form the "obvious" Strong Young Women's alliance is looking like a disastrously bad move.

Leif UTR1

Leif confessional at Tarzan's dance, "Tarzan. Classic. You are a classic."

This random confessional sets up Leif to be included in the Misfit Alliance scene.

At the IC, Leif yells for the men to spread out on the balance beam.

Colton, "He just needs to shut up!"

Matt, "Dude! We're good!"

*Nothing here that helps Leif's winner chances.

Matt INV

*Radical Vis swings like this is death for a character.

Mike MOR3

Mike tells Kat that he took care of the fire while the women were at TC.

But the scene seems only to be a lead-in to showing Kat's immaturity.

Mike narrates learning that no one except Kourtney went home after TC.

"...so they're all safe and it's kind of annoying."

Mike confessional, post RC, more vacuous narrating:

"Today was, we won,... Our camp, it’s gonna look great. The Manono Tribe, we’re gonna have the, the best camp probably in history."

Mike, a Colton SPV, with little insight. Much like simple narration, it covers ground we've already been shown:

"Colton today has done absolutely nothing. He’s proved he’s the worst person for our tribe. No firewood, no food, nothing with the shelter. He feels like this is a vacation. Colton is just here to hang out in the girls’ camp."

*I expect Mike to be around a while, but episodes like this don't show any personal game.

Monica MOR3

An interesting character, but is it simply because Salani has gone to TC for the first two eps?

Monica, post IC, “Kat jumped in when she didn’t even NEED to jump in, not once, TWICE. I’m sad, I’m sad for women. This isn’t the way women are, frankly I’m so embarrassed.”

Here, Monica is just one more voice building the big case against Kat.

Monica, after talking at the well with Nina, "I’m so low on the totem pole. How do I possibly go to somebody in the five and say ‘Would you guys be interested in getting rid of Kat?’ I mean, that’s a one way ticket home. So I’m hoping that they’ll open their eyes, but who knows with this group. Who knows?"

This is a complex statement that explains her position going into TC. But, would she have gotten anything so complex if this were not a Pre-TC scene?

Nina and Monica at the well:

Nina, "I don't think we're gonna make it out of here."

Monica, "It doesn't matter in what order, me, you, and Christina are out of here."

A simple strategic comment that explains the alliance situation, but has no further insight.

*Much more insight and conflict is being given to Sab, Chelsea, Kim, and even Kat's scenes, than to Christina or Monica's comments.

I think Monica is probably right about their inevitable boots.

Nina CPM5

Nina's first confessional, “I don’t know what we’re gonna do, but at this point, it’s definitely the five younger gals: Kim, Chelsea, Kat, Sab, and Alicia against Christina, Monica and I, and I’ve just been tryin’ to find my place.”

This summed up her episode, as she became increasingly frustrated and desperate about the power of the dominant alliance.

Her complex role this highlighted the big mistake the "obvious" alliance is.

But, her role was to also keep all the negative focus on "dumb broad", Kat.

Chelsea may have argued with Kim that Nina deserved to be there more than Kat.

But, Nina's relentlessly angry and nasty comments about Kat were meant to put us off a bit.

And Alicia and Sab's comments about what a lump she was in camp also blunted her arguments for not being booted.

Chelsea, "Sucks!"

Nina, "Yes, it does. And it's gonna get worse." Points at Kat. "She should be going home. I know she's fun, but she's ruining it. Ignorant. Nitwit. Outlast, outwit, but you can't outwit the witless."

Chelsea laughs behind her buff.

Nina, "You're* too smart to let this happen. We could actually redeem ourself as a tribe, because right now, we look like idiots!"

Chelsea, "Trust me, I've been embarrassed since I've been here."

(*Note that the responsibility for turning the vote around is laid directly on Chelsea's shoulders.)

*Is Nina's comment to Chelsea that this is the moment to save the tribe from disaster and redeem itself, a "moment of truth" comment, that dooms the entire tribe?

She didn't leave as a "hero done wrong" and her real value to the tribe was put into question.

Nina's sour grapes comments, and the "sack of rocks" SPVs from both Alicia and Sab take away from her "have a right to be here" arguments.

Sab CP5

Sabrina is like Salani's den mother.

Her comments are complex enough and game enough, but for all her strategy and complex and interesting comments, there haven't been comments that relate to her place in the game.

“Managing the Airheads is gonna be exhausting, but hopefully with this new leadership role, I can just come in there and be like ‘Shhhh.’”

“We lost the damn challenge and that hurt my soul. We needed a tarp like a fat kid needs cake. We needed it; we wanted it. We were seconds away from winning, so it wasn’t a horrible loss, but at the end of the day, it’s a loss. No one ever remembers second place.”

This certainly shows that she's competitive. But, it is a group of "We" statements.

She helps build the Colton story, but it is still in the context of the Salani tribe. What does it mean for Sab?

“Colton is like a virus, like there seems to be not a cure for him just yet. Today I found myself, without even thinking, just entertaining him half the morning. And it’s like ‘What am I doin’?’”

Her follow-up confessional is more like it!:

“Again, Colton has snaked his way back to our damn camp. I don’t know if he has more estrogen in his body than testosterone, but I swear…what a drama queen. We just don’t need that energy, like, go to your camp. I don’t know if it’s just Colton’s just like, big ol’ craziness, dramatic, and now he’s cryin’. It’s just, the more he comes over, the more he starts becomin’ like the jerk, by the minute. This is our tribe, and we have to start OWNING our tribe, owning our thoughts, owning our actions, and owning what the vision of what we wanna look like later on down the road,.."

Still, it is a neutral, den mother-like statement.

About controlling Kat:

"...We wanna try to keep things controlled as much as possible. Least I do, if I’m bein’ the leader...."

At TC, she is shown agreeing with Chelsea that she would have chosen a different alliance if she could do it over.

Kat says the loss was her fault. The camera shows Sab nodding, "Yes."

Just before the vote, she "jumps in" to lecture the tribe on how much better the men would handle conflicts by calling another man out, rather than tippy-toeing around.

*For me, Sab is oddly isolated in her edit. Lots of great commentary and complex thought, but no real connection to the other women and little with Colton, since she gave him the HII.

She also comes off as rather toneless too, which isn't ever good for a character, especially a high-Vis, CP one.

Troyzan MOR2

I go with Vis 2, because of his being given the two opening comments in the recap.

Jeff, "...one goal in mind!"

Troyzan, "I just want to be the greatest Survivor of all time!"*

*Grandiose just a little?

You go, Troyzan! Show 'em how it's done!

Troy, after Colton shows the Misfits the HII:

“Holy cow. I just found out some stuff tonight. It’s like, my heart’s pounding, and uh, you know I found out that Co-I found out that Colton has an idol and we gotta get rid of the muscle, meaning Mike and Matt.”

Oh Troyzan! You are the greatest Survivor player, ever!!

Colton, "...Troy, Leif, Jonas, and Tarzan which is like the most random group of people in the entire world, and ‘til I can get with the girls, I have to associate myself with these misfits..."

*I wouldn't argue OTT again. It's certainly borderline.

I don't mind the blacklisting based on so-called "prejudices". I don't think edgic should be a democracy. Ratings should be decided by a council made up of Phoenix, Oowatanite, fat little fingers, Warrior, Red Coffee, Hippochinfat, and mattd.
