I'm Still Standing was fresh and interesting, and honestly subtlety is not what Idol is about. People might not get (talking the hicks in the sticks) that was a reggae song by just the beat, she puts on the thick accent and suddenly it's totally obvious. Reggae gives Naima a genre to represent and might be what saves her a few weeks. Reggae nation is small, but we are out there voting. :)

I found this interesting about Naima's choice: NAIMA ADEDEPO — “I’m Still Standing” DEBRA BYRD: She immediately connected to that [song]. She had no doubt. It struck her in terms of her position in the competition, having been in the wild card and having been in the bottom. [Smiles] It was very literal, there was no subtext there. Don Was, the producer of her track, hired Ziggy Marley’s band to play on that track in the studio. It’s so authentic, I was very surprised by the responses from the judges. You can’t get any more authentic than that. She wasn’t putting it on. It’s where she lives. Everybody’s waiting for her to do reggae; she did it, and everybody’s like, “Eh.” I’m a bit baffled. But Steven Tyler loved it. It was a risk. The fact that she sang it in the [reggae] patois is a whole other risk she took. I give her a medal for bravery. We’ve never had a contestant do that. Don Was turned to me and said, “Has anything like this ever been done on American Idol?” I said, “No, this is a virginal experience.” So I really hope that people embrace it.

It's like Vanilla Ice doing white-sounding rap, it just doesn't work. If she did this sort of thing every week, or spoke with a fake accent in interviews, then I would certainly agree with the criticism. I thought she did a lot better last night than on top 13 or 12 night. Also, we know she's from Milwaukee, but do we know her family ISN'T from Jamaica? And saying she was worse than Paul is absurd. He can't sing at all and has been the worst performer now for 4 weeks straight. Unfortunately, I seem to be quite outnumbered in my positive opinion of Naima, so I expect her to be voted off tonight.
