It's his own fault if he let people on Twitter or Facebook get to him.  After the first episode, when it became clear that he would be portrayed as a crazy person, he should have hidden or deactivated his social media accounts until the season stopped airing.  Pretty much what all the contestants on the Bachelor/Bachelorette have to do per their contracts anyways.

 

It's probably not as simple as eliminating Twitter/Facebook. I think someone new to the public eye is going to have a very difficult time ignoring what is being said about them with regard to their appearance on something like Survivor. Think about it this way. They go to work. They go to the store. They go wherever they go and they're going to sense that people are treating them different and they're really going to want to know why and how they're coming across on tv. Even a mature confident person who thinks they did a pretty good job out there is still going to want to know how they're coming across. Now, add the fact that Brandon was 19 and then on top of that add the fact that his mantra out there was to redeem the Hantz name. You've basically got a person who has very very little chance of not looking at the internet to see what people are saying. Sucks, for instance, was going to figuratively beat Brandon hard regardless of whether Facebook/Twitter existed. In fact, Facebook/Twitter was probably a way for Brandon/Candace to try to diffuse that a little. This kind of internet bullying of the contestants has been going on long before Facebook/Twitter existed, though certainly this was the worst ....yes, most depraved .....season of this kind of bullying on Sucks that I can remember.

If contestants on other reality shows can deactivate their social media accounts until their respective seasons end, then people like Brandon, who isn't going to stand up well to the criticism, can too.  If he was going to stay active (this applies to Candice too), then they needed to stay strong and just block/delete the haters.  Whitney did a great job of this and she being called a slut, whore, and cheater from Day 1. 

Brandon was always going to get attention, both negative and positive, simply because he's related to Russell (the most polarizing contestant ever) and knowing that he still chose to go on the show.  As far as Sucks goes, that's the point of the site.  All Survivors get blasted here.  Overall, I would say Cochran and Whitney had more haters and negative reaction than Brandon though.  Brandon's wife blogging about being beaten of course didn't help but that goes back to them and wasn't something, for example, that the Survivor editors made up.
