You wanna be on top,...mate?
It looks as if America's Next Top Model may be undergoing a name change to go along with its recent changes in format, as A Blog About Things is reporting that the theme for cycle 18 is...
US vs. UK!
Yes, Tyra Banks is stoking the long dormant fires of the American Revolutionary War in the name of fashion, bringing together seven models from the US and seven models from the UK to see which country is fiercer.
Or something.
I definitely have mixed feelings about this reveal. What few international cycles of the show I've seen have been pretty good and I think the show could use the creative jolt that embracing the strengths of those editions could bring. The all-star season has been a bit of a disappointment and having such an unexpected "gimmick" to cycle 18 may also be just what the show needed to freshen things up. However, it's been a while since there was a cycle that I loved and I don't know if changing the nationalities of half the contestants is enough at this point in time.
While cycle 18 (which features new judge Kelly Cutrone) won't be premiering until some time next year, you can check out the all-star cycle, airing Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.
How do you feel about the US vs. UK theme? Do you think the show should have a slightly tweaked title, just in case a British girl were to win? What should be the next seasonal theme that Top Model tackles?
