He knew he was gay during idol because (by his own admission) he told Kimberley Locke he was gay. That means he lied when he said he probably didn't know he was gay yet during idol. Clay had to have known by his senior year in high school, if not before, that he was not sexually attracted to females. I'm guessing that he was already sexually active with guys by his senior year in high school. There's no way he didn't know he was gay by the time he was 22-23, like he claims. Why he plays the innocent/naive "guy who didn't know" is anyone's guess. Maybe because he thinks it makes for a good back story, but it really just makes him look like an idiot, which apparently doesn't seem to bother him.

He says in his book that while in high school he would get calls from friends in the middle of the night after they'd been partying and that he'd go get them to take them home. I'm guessing that more often than not, it was to meet up with guys for quickies.

JMHO, based on my thinking that Clay isn't as stupid as he likes to portray himself as far as "the gay thing" and never has been. His phoniness and naive act regarding his sexuality has been and continues to be tiresome and boring. I can only guess that he knows that he makes for a good story to entertain the more gullible type females who see him as having been some lost little boy or something. It's so silly, really.

Clay has consistently said that he thought he was Bi and that he planned to marry and have kids. Going to Hollywood opened his eyes to the fact that it was not going to be that way.

I loved the Durham show...every note he sang, each word of banter, even the stories! I was unfamiliar with the flow of the show and the order of the songs and I thought it was very smooth and well-paced. The banter was a mixture of new and old but if I like something I REALLY like it. (Bet that surprises you!!)
