Their argument? Both men – Nathaniel Claybrooks, an All-American football player, and Christopher Johnson, an aspiring NFL player – tried out for the show during August 2011 auditions in Nashville, but allege they were never seriously considered due to the color of their skin. Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with a representative for Claybrooks and Johnson who acknowledged that, although there have been contestants (i.e., male suitors on The Bachelorette and female suitors on The Bachelor) of non-white racial backgrounds in the past, “in 23 seasons, there has never been a person of color as the lead role on either show.” The suit, the rep explained, will name ABC, Warner Horizon Television, Next Entertainment, NZK productions, and executive producer Michael Fleiss as defendants. Posts: 2441 04/20/12 11:31 AM Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts	re: the lawsuit mentioned above, pardon me, but what a bunch of bullshit. first of all, the show is a crapfest, and yes i watch every minute of it. however, for a couple of dudes to pull out the race card for this is slimier than the show itself. if the producers/defendants have 1/8th of a brain, they could simply claim in their own defense that the goal of the show is to find 'true love' for the 'suitor' and perhaps said 'suitor(s)' didn't express an interest in members of different races. as far as the 'suitor' being a person of color, who knows and who cares? it's a moronic and sleezy reality show. were these dudes with the lawsuit really traumatized from not being considered? case closed. it sickens me how people in our country pull reasons for lawsuits out their asses and walk away most times with more money than i'll make in a lifetime. excuse me now, i just broke a nail typing this and have to contact my lawyer to sue the makers of Dell keyboards

I'm gonna play the ageism card. I'd like to see people in their 40's or 50's, who might be more realistic about long term love, ride in helicopters.

Is anyone really that surprised? I have no doubts both their stories are true. But how are they gonna prove it? I think partially the reason for the lack of colour on the show is 1) the show knows its audience is white women (frauen) 2) there are probably not enough coloured applicants to begin with. I don't see them ever getting a black bachelor or bachelorette. Most people are still tribal and won't date outside their own race, culture, values, economic status etc....... Kinda sad but whatever. It's only a t.v. show. I bet the show will get a suit from someone one day saying they weren't accepted because they were bi or gay.

Case closed. But I do believe people of colour should be represented, not because the producers could avoid such lawsuits, but because interracial couples are becoming more and more the norm. They don't represent the majority of couples out there, but it seems to me that there's very little to no controversy behind it.

They were called Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Real Chance of Love, For the Love of Ray J, and Omarosa's Ultimate Merger. They all got cancelled. But seriously. The main audience for the show is middle-aged white women who don't want to watch a non-white person as the Bachelor. The ratings would go down the toilet. Viewers are racist. Those two assholes needs to accept that fact.

I don't think any of the black guys on the Bachelorette have ever made it past the second episode.

It's the only reality show I watch where I can discuss the show with other ladies everywhere I go- work, supermarket, hairdresser etc. None of these ladies watch any of the other reality shows that I watch, but they ALL watch the Bachelor and Bachelorette. Now they know that I always have the real scoop (from reading here) after years of having to correct their faulty theories about what was going to happen. They don't watch Survivor, Project Runway, Top Chef, Ru Paul, Design Star or any other reality competitions except the Bachelor! They think this is reality TV at its finest.

I would watch a show with the main castmember being any race. Why would people not watch the Bachelor with a black or hispanic or asian Bachelor or Bachelorette??

The problem would be who to cast as the bachelorettes and how to not make the show about his race (does he pick the black girl or the white girl dun dun dun). The problem with shows like Flavor of Love that made them not watchable by the general public is that they cast trash.

They will be the sixth couple from that show to get married. In the mean time and after 16 seasons, the number for The Bachelor is a great big zero. Jason and Molly don’t count, because Melissa was the recipient of Jason’s final rose.
