Even the "quirky characters" disinterested me... the absolute driest sense of humor. If you're in the New York area, go see Once the Musical. I saw it this afternoon and was astounded at how it made me feel. I've rarely had chills that many times; it's built to be so intimate that it often feels like one of the most beautiful voices in the world is singing to you. I liked the movie, but for what the musical adds to the overall viewing experience, I found the musical far superior. The only negative: it's a wee bit long, mostly because they start focusing on minor characters' (fairy boring).

So chilling and wonderful and just a fresh Broadway experience. Anyway I also disliked Le Havre. I feel like certain groups would get it, I'm not part of that.

Posts: 2801 05/14/12 10:06 PM Registered user More Recent Posts	I gave up on trying to see the sense in Miss Bala. I couldn't even figure out how they got from one place to another, much less why. I watched Tyrannosaur tonight. Superb acting by Peter Mullan (yum) and Olivia Colman and beautiful cinematography, but definitely an exercise in miserablism. The main characters must live in the most depressing town in the world. There's a nice twist near the end, but I found the absolute ending pretty unsatisfactory.

It's really great, and I wasn't expecting that scene at all (anyone who's seen it will know what I'm talking about). Also, Margaret's DVD & Bluray release it finally announced! July 10th. http://blogs.indiewire.co...w-directors-cut-20120515 I can't even stress how amazing this movie is. Everyone's got to buy it because I really do think it's one of the best movies & (especially) lead performances in many years.

You might have to commit to buying the DVD if you want to see it. (Or maybe the local library?) Peter Mullan is definitely yum, Midnight. Mmm. Exhibit A: Saw the trailer for Hyde Park on Hudson today. It looks like The King's Speech meets My Week with Marilyn. It's much more light-hearted than I imagined it'd be. And I had forgotten that Olivia Colman is in it as Queen Elizabeth (as in the Queen Mum, not QEII, which I had to remind myself).

I had heard about how light Hyde Park on Hudson would be but the trailer is probably less light than I was expecting. Although it definitely looks like a My Week with Marilyn/The Last Station/The King's Speech threesome. Still, I don't think that Laura Linney will win for this role like some people on the other sites have been predicting. I hope Olivia Williams gets a nomination though, it just seems like it's about time she does? Bill Murray will so be the runner-up (not the winner) for this, too.
