'Smash': NBC, Columbia Records in Pact for Soundtrack The network on Monday released the first full-length music video from its upcoming musical drama Smash, featuring lead -- and former American Idol contestant -- Katharine McPhee covering Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful." The story of the staging of a Broadway play about Marilyn Monroe, McPhee will perform the song during her audition in the series premiere. Debra Messing, Megan Hilty, Christian Borle, Jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston, Brian D'Arcy James, Jaime Ceperoand Raza Jaffrey round out the cast, with guest stars including Nick Jonas and Bernadette Peters already lined up. NBC's midseason drama, which counts Steven Spielberg among its executive producers, premieres Monday, Feb. 6 at 10 p.m. following The Voice on NBC.

Uma Thurman makes a splash on NBC's 'Smash' 'PULP FICTION' STAR LANDS A FIVE-EPISODE ARC NBC has landed Uma Thurman for a key arc on the midseason musical drama "Smash." The network announced on Thursday (December 8) that Thurman has signed on for a five-episode "Smash" arc, playing a famous and notoriously difficult movie star who circles the Marilyn Monroe bio-musical at the show's center. An Oscar nominee for "Pulp Fiction" and a Golden Globe winner for HBO's "Hysterical Blindness," Thurman is a newcomer when it comes to series television. Her recent feature credits include "Motherhood," "The Accidental Husband" and the upcoming "Bel Ami," opposite Robert Pattinson. "Smash," on of NBC's major spring hopefuls, will premiere on Monday, February 6 at 10 p.m. following "The Voice." Created by Theresa Rebeck, the pilot features Steven Spielberg, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron among its executive producers. Featuring songs by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, "Smash" has an ensemble cast including Katharine McPhee, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport, Debra Messing, Christian Borle.

My friend who doesnt watch TV even said she wanted more. The 40 minutes (more or less) went fast and there was a lot of production numbers that were well staged. I think Angelica Huston will give Jessica Lange a run for her money if they are nominated in the same awards cycle. For me the surprise is Debra Messing, I was not a fan of hers on Will and Grace but she is very good in this. The thing is she has a beautiful singing voice and I have a feeling before the season is over she will sing. SI... If you were in the same town as me you would have been my first choice as the guest to bring. I hope that makes up for my sneak preview. :)
