I think that fact that he's fucking her made his "pep talk" a bit more than a helpful hint. Still, tough. You're trying to get investors to toss in hundreds of thousands of dollars to bank roll your starring vehicle. Get over it, Ivy. And BTW, don't shit where you eat.

I agree. I feel like they're trying to make the audience feel for Ivy, be being berated by the director, have to live up to her mother, her insecurities, etc, but I don't feel sorry for her. She's been on Broadway, she's not new to the game. She should be a diva and work it out.

I'm all for '1/2 time talks' -- I'm just not getting why the composer is all about defending Ivy to exclusion. She really does need to toughen up for someone who's been in the chorus for years. And Will mentioning to fire DiMaggio because of the affair: it was so funny how much Derek was 'you're crazy!' because he was the only one in the room clueless.

The Show Will Go On! "Smash" Renewed for Second Season

"Smash," the hour-long NBC musical drama series about anal sex, has been renewed for a second season.

The series created by Broadway playwright Theresa Rebeck, with original songs by Hairspray writers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, is currently seven episodes into its 15-episode first season. It airs 10 PM (ET) on Monday.

Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, who has shepherded the idea of the series since his days at Showtime, announced the renewal. The show was heavily promoted by the network prior to its January premiere.

They really almost lost me with the stupid affair but then Thorsen shows up as the bartender and if he is a recurring character I am in period. Normally I prefer to drink at home where the booze is cheap and you can get hammered but if that was my bartender I would be a regular.

But seriously I don't really get the Katherine McPhee hate. I don't really watch Idol but she seems like one of the more likable Idol rejects. And she lost to a full blown retard so I can't see wishing her ill will.

She is definitely one of the better things about this show.

I was distracted because she raised her arms a lot, and not just in that song. It seems to be Kat's only way of showing that she's "into" a song.

He played the Teen Angel in one of the many stupid re-mounts of GREASE on Broadway and then fell off the face of the Earth. (I think it was the one where WE got to choose Danny and Sandy.)

It's weird how much the quality of the show falls off when we delve into the personal lives. The Marilyn stuff is wonderful and I'm not someone who usually cares for musicals. But I love the songs and the workshop was really enjoyable despite the manufactured boiler issue. But so many of the storylines not pertaining to the musical are blech.

EXACTLY!

I even like it when Anjelica Huston's character has conversations about financing, selling off paintings, or whatnot. All that business side of it is much more fascinating to me than all the personal life drama. Debra Messing's character (I don't even know most of the characters' names--that's how little I care about them) catching her son smoking pot...big fucking deal. So boring.

He ended up on Broadway. And this show is about a BROADWAY show. And everyone laughs. IDGI. Is Broadway good or bad.

I liked Messing in The Starter Wife, but I'm getting way too much 'Grace' from her in this show ~ I really expected her to grab the bong from the kid for a quick hit. She's just not coming off as 'the female Tim Rice' she's supposedly supposed to be.

The bartender is the best thing, followed closely by Derek (again - need to remind myself to pull out the Coupling DVD's this weekend); Tom's apt sitter/assistant is sharing the bottom w/ the Tom & lawyer 'relationship'.
