The song choices are geared to the audience, who nowadays are in their 40s and 50s. Teens and 20somethings are all into The Voice and so they do more contemporary songs. Still AI looks FOOLISH making these 16 top 22 year olds sing songs that were popular before they were born

Motown was a good theme circa Season 3, now I'm just fucking over it. Movie songs is always a terrible theme too, who will try and do "My Heart Will Go On" and fail?

I think she could do a folksy arrangement on Falling Slowly and really kill it. Could be a true moment, if so, especially if she is "propped" with a guitar (this is always the icing on the cake that suckers fans/viewers in) Hope Hollie has a trainwreck, although I'm sure that's the last thing some of you want. If she breaks out of her nerves, she could do really well. It is kind of a shame. The same thing with Elise applies to Skylar; she needs to stop playing it so safe and at least break out of her comfort zone. Otherwise, she will just coast. I would like to see Jessica "rock it out" if possible next week, she sure as hell has the pipes to do it. She'll probably sing a safe ballad though. I really liked what Colton did with Love the Way You Lie, so more of those types of performances from him and he'll be alright with me when he isn't talking. Don't know what he should sing though. Could TPTB maybe clear Pink Floyd? He could do well with something like Hey You, or Wish You Were Here (although I don't know if the latter was featured in any film) Don't know what PeePee and Josh'quisha should do. If it was still Queen week I think Joshie would really kill Bohemian Rhapsody. ROBBED!

Is it too late to tweet Yessica repeatedly and tell her how great "Heatwave" is and how it would be awesome to do "My Heart Will Go On" for the Titanic's 100th Anniversary? Adore Hollie so if she's going to go out this week, I want her to at least go out on a high note. Totally agree that Elise needs to bust out and do something really cool this week. As much as I like "Falling Slowly," I don't really see that as her jam. I think "Bring Me To Life" from Daredevil could actually be kind of epic, and of course "Summertime" is great song that she would sound awesome on but its kind of overdone. I think Queen week might be NEXT week, rather than this week because that's when Queen are rumoured to appear on Idol. I see "Falling Slowly" as more likely Phil's choice, but he actually kind of seems out of touch with good music like that (see him not knowing SBTIUTK), so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even know it. I really want Colton to do "Vindicated" from Spiderman, I think that'd be awesome.

As for some of the other picks, I love my pick for Skylar and think she'd sound awesome on it, but she's already flirted with "9 to 5" once and will probably just go with it. Also, I'll be shocked if "My Heart Will Go On" isn't picked due to all the Titanic fever going on this month. And I think they'll save "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for the results show.

Per TVLine (aka the site that Slezak and co now work for) TVLine has learned exclusively that Wednesday night’s theme will be “Now & Then” — with each contestant tackling two songs: A Billboard No. 1 hit from 2000 to 2012, and a “soul” song from a previous decade. So essentially this week's theme again, but with more choices and sort of Motown.
