I think I know this one. Dragons are tied to magic and the Maesters are men of science. They want the rulers to rely on them - not magic priests, etc. Otherwise you get burned alive by Vicatarion for failing to heal a cut hand :)

Maybe Jaqen is on a mission for folks tied to the dragons/magic? Last time we saw him he was poking around the Citadel with a key that open every door . . . .

I knew they were going to make Jeyne a Lannister. I don't really have a problem with it. So Robb and Jamie are going to be foils all season long. This was a good change for the show, both of those actors an characters are excellent - it would have been too bad to lose them for a year.

My gut reaction to Jeyne being a Lannister is that its incredibly retarded. But, I've actually enjoyed most of the changes from and additions to the book so far--so I'm holding out hope it turns out well.

Robb is an idiot. He married her because he had sex with her. He married her the next day! It's possible he doesn't even know who she is in he series when he marries her, though that would be sort of lame.

I just think he fucks a distant Lannister cousin and marries her. It's not THAT much worse than having sex with the daughter of a Lannister bannerman and marrying her. It's an enemy regardless.

I would prefer if she wasn't a Lannister, but they needed to give Robb and Jamie something to do and this creates their story. The love story was probably always going to be stupid anyways, I don't care about Jeyne. The Romeo and Juliet thing is lame, I agree.

In the book, I got the impression that Robb married Jeyne because of the whole Stark honor thing. He did her, so he had to marry her. Granted, it seemed that he wanted to--and by doing so, he was breaking his vow to Walder Frey to marry one of the Freyettes.

Maybe I didn't really get the timeline in the books, but didn't he meet her while he was off warring and fell in love? It wasn't really just overnight was it? It would have taken him a litle while just to think about whether to compromise his integrity and double-cross the Freys.

Yeah, and there were hints that the mother helped that situation out because she wanted her daughter to land him. I also seem to recall that he was pretty out of it for the first fucking, from fever from his wounds or something. Later of course it turned into TRU LUV. He certainly was his daddy's boy. Both idiots.

Also making Robb more vulnerable that night he banged Jeyne was that was when he learned that Theon killed and mutilated poor Brandon and Rickon . . . .

just got to watch this episode (1) on pay per view on CineChoc - they're broadcasting it in english with subtitles (unfortunately french ones for the dothraki lines) and it's not high-def

episode one didn't really seem too coherent - it felt rushed and I had to fill Mr CBR in on a lot of things (Melisande, Davos, and Slynt). Dinklage was excellent as per usual. But, they need to stop rushing things or they're going to lose viewers who haven't read the books. And has Roz(s?) porked up a bit - I don't remember her being quite so chunky.

I think he's that old in the show. In the book he and Jon are the same age so he's 14 or 15. Regardless, your point is valid.

From what I recall of the book, the Westerlings were an ancient house that fell on hard times. They were more rich in history than anything else by the time Robb married Jeyne, and strategically insignificant. Making things wore, Mrs. Westerling was born a Spicer--a family one generation or two away from being peasant merchants. Jeyne clearly had an inappropriate lineage for a queen, which pissed off Walder Frey even more since his daughter or granddaughter should've been Robb's queen. Tywin Lannister had long since realized that Robb was some sort of savant on the field who was going to somehow win every battle regardless of the numbers and odds, so he played on Sybill Spicer-Westerling's desire to climb the social ladder. It's pretty clearly implied in the book that Jeyne wasn't in on any of it. Didn't she even piss her mother off in ADWD for continuing to mourn for Robb? Or it might've been AFFC.

From Jaime's last chapter in A Feast for Crows:

"[Jeyne's] face was puffy, and there was a scab on her forehead, half-hidden by a lock of brown hair. 'What happened there?' he asked her

The girl turned her head away. 'It is nothing,' insisted her mother, . . . 'She would not give up the little crown the rebel gave her, and when I tried to take it from her head the willful child fought me.'

'It was mine.' Jeyne sobbed. 'You had not right. Robb had it made for me. I loved him.' "

Sybell then goes on to admit that she made sure Jeyne would not conceive in exchange for marriages for her daughters and sons. The Lannisters gave her Castamere, a long ruined castle, and a Lannister bastard

Jaime also calls Sybell a scheming turn-cloak bitch.

How they turn that whole situation into Jeyne being a Lannister beats the hell out of me. But perhaps it will work out.

Demanding little fucker

as a bannerman to a large house, the Westerlings almost certainly have some 3rd to 4th generation Lannister blood in them. The line between "Bannerman with a different name" and "distant cousin with the same last name" has no real drawbacks I can think of- it just makes the taboo-ness of Robb's fucking more obvious to the casual viewer.

Yeah, the Red Wedding is going to be EPIC as far as pissing off teenage girls goes. They may well have to introduce Sansa to a hot vampire minion of Littlefinger to get season 4 greenlit.

Just think about how much fucking shit happens in the second half of Book 3.

1. Tyrion kills Tywin.
2. Oberyn vs. Gregor
3. Dany frees the Unsullied. Takes Mereen
4. "Only Cat"
5. Arya's epic battle vs. the Tickler.
6. Jon and Stannis on the wall.
etc.

That's true, it seems like the back half of book 3 has more going on than the first half. It's part of the problem of splitting one book into two seasons, one of the seasons will be more setup.

They're actually splitting Book 3 into Season 3 and Season 4. So I assume the season finale of Season 3 will be the RW which happens in the middle of the book I think. I hope they kill Joff in the season finale as well.

Give me a full Season 4 of Oberyn and the Martells before they have to kill him. I think I was madder at him dying than anything else that happened.
