Okay. I finally got to the end of the season. I had to do it over a short period of time as I would never want to sit through the ridiculous cliffhangers of every episode. Turned out to be the right decision.

Here's the thing... Why is everyone posting here HAPPY with the ending? I agree it makes sense. It is tragic how Rosie's death happened. The writers left enough clues along the way that it was logical.

However... The path to get there was ridiculous beyond belief and filled with outright stupid and behavior that had no explanation. So guilty Aunt Terry was the one who killeed Rosie, but entirely not knowing it was her. Okay. But why has she been hiding this for an entire month?! Shouldn't the guilt have gotten to her pretty much immediately? Did she act horrified at her own culpability in season 1? No. Because no one at that time knew who the killer was. And that included the fucking showrunner, Veena fucking Sud, who should be shot for not planning out a solution in mind to get to and rather gave us a meandering, useless, completely skippable series of occurences before she took a YEAR off to start tying up those loose ends she left hanging.

All of you should be outraged. Yes, even moreso than after the ending of the first season. Because what was pawned off on the viewers was more bullshit on top of bullshit.

Rosie's murder is solved but here are some unsolved mysteries. I already mentioned Terry being completely ignorant of her own guilt until the end of season 2. Here are more...

How does Linden get away with all the stupid shit that she does and not get suspended earlier than she was?

Why does Duck Phillips keep switching sides? He keeps acting like a bad guy's heavy but in the end, it's because he's simply a vaccillating asshole. Some clarity about what this character is about would be good. In the end, he's just an obstacle only when the writers want him to be. It's stupid.

Speaking of ill-defined characters, who the fuck is Ames? Whenever he got brought up, I never remembered who he was. I had to go back and search for information about him and it basically boils down to these things: Rosie was afraid of him (no idea why), Terry was dating him (only revealed very briefly after teasing, again briefly, she was dating a married guy), is the father of the asshole rich kid in season 1, was either going to or not going to divorce his wife, and he was involved in the waterfront project. THAT'S FUCKING IT. All this stuff was stuff said about him rather than being shown in his brief amount of screentime. He might as well be invisible. He was simply a vehicle to twist and turn to explain how Terry was at the scene for her to kill Rosie. IDIOTIC. It just goes to prove how dedicated the writers were in obfuscating things to the detriment of character development.

And what is worst is this... the most obfuscated character and the most one dimensional is the tragic Rosie Larsen. We are supposed to care that she died. That a young girl who had everything going for her somehow ended up dead. Instead, we get confusing storylines of red herrings that show her connected to a escort site and that somehow gets brushed over and turned into her working part-time as a maid at the casino hotel who got killed being at the wrong place and time. Instead of a complex character that we would understand why her grieving family would act out so stupidly, we get what is basically a white-washed angel who walked the earth and was killed in some stupid family tragedy that had to be cooked up.

And how shoehorned in was that grumpy old deus ex machina grandfather character? Richmond had to find out somehow and this was apparently how they decided to let him know just so Jamie could freak out and do his big villain bwah-ha-ha speech and die by suicide by cop. Does this jive at all with the character we have seen for the past two seasons? AT ALL?

So Linden's fiance was her psychiatrist? Clearly her treatment was compromised by the relationship as can be seen by her horrible handling of her son and her own impending/now non-existent marriage.

I had to laugh not only at the brief  appearance of the fiance's character, but also at the brief appearance of the teacher. Just so we are reminded about how abruptly those storylines got dropped. Why even bother to show them when the viewers don't even give a shit by that point since the writers clearly didn't either?

One entire episode where Linden sits in the mental ward and NOTHING HAPPENS? FOUR EPISODES before the end of the season too? It wouldn't be so bad if it actually revealed anything of any insight. I don't know what Veena Sud thinks is insight. What she thinks is barely enough to write on the palm of a hand. Instead,what this served to do was stop the entire story dead in its tracks. All momentum to get to the killer went out the window. Stupid and patronizing all at the same time.

And how patronizing was that ending of that ostensibly shattered family being brought together somehow by that message from beyond the grave from the angel Rosie? Dear god. I want to fucking puke.

Did we really have to have Mitch spend an entire season on the road having depressing adventures with a runaway who was clearly going to rob her blind? Her entire storyline was stupid and condescending. No one gives a shit. It stopped the entire story dead everytime it cut to her character. It's also another instance where the writers mistake this random happenings as "insight".


I am sorry for ranting. But the show makes me so angry simply because it had so much promise but the characterizations and the storytelling choices were idiotic and ruined whatever it had going for it completely. The only reason, and I mean the ONLY reason, I continued watching was simply because of the character of Holder who is just fascinatingly oddball and likable. They almost ruined him completely with the bullshit cliffhanger of last season and had to use the first three episodes of the second to backtrack from it completely. This is the only time that I have seen the writers acknoledge what a horrible misfire of an idea that was last season. Let's ruin the character that everyone identifies with! This will get them coming back for more in a year's time! Fuck you writers. Fuck you Veena Sud and your ideas of what makes good viewing. Fuck you for trying to inject some sort of ostensible "message" when a theme should come out naturally from events and characters behaving like realistic three dimensional people rather than vehicles for twists and turns that mean fuck all.

The only way I would come back for season 3 is if they fire Ms Sud and bring someone in that can do something with the format of the show, create rounded characters over a period of a single season to tell a closed-ended story and not dick the audience around like saps.
