For those of you who are interested, BBC aired The Doctor Who Confidential as the series was running, mostly interviews and production details (standard DVD extras.) If you go and want to remain unspoiled, don't scroll down the page - some of the descriptions are vaguely indicative. The first one is safe to watch, I think there are two tiny clips from future episodes (one from next week), but nothing that will spoil anything. I'll check out the others tomorrow at work (instead of, you know, working) to see which ones are safe. I'm sorry for the multiple posts, but I really love this series and sometimes forget that it's meant to be a children's show!

The Unquiet Dead, airing at 9:00 and midnight. They're also re-airing The End of the World at 8:00. |

Thanks for that update. It saves me steps to online TV guides to check.
I wasn't expecting to like this, but I do. I can easily accept the new doctor but I don't like the chick that much. I started to like her more when she left her useless bf at the curb and she had some good scenes in End of the World but I'm still not won over by her. Off to set up my VCR and settle in for a good evening of new Who. |

When did Dr. Who abandon the 4-part storylines?

Re: Dr Who on Sci Fi channel
Quote: I think they were abandoned with this Doctor. I just checked over at the official site and it looks like they were 4-part through the end of Sylvester McCoy's run as the 7th Doctor. (I don't count the guy who played the Doctor in that movie in 1997 or whenever it was.) |

Scree - Before this new Doctor, the series used to run in 25 minute installments - now it's the standard 44 minute program, so the two-parters of the new series are almost equivalent to the 4 episode arcs of the old series. There are three two-parters this season.

Yeah, a 1 hour storyline just seems too short. It's like getting an old-style 2-parter, which would seem like a gyp. 2 hour storylines will be nice to see again.

It's "Who" night! Yy! I missed last week's ep because I was out of town for a family wedding, and I was stuck in a cheap hotel room with only 14 basic cable channels plus HBO. Oh well, at least I got to see Tony Soprano come out of his coma, so I guess it's a tradeoff.
What's on the Who docket for tonight? |

Tonight's episode: Aliens of London
The first episode in a two-part story: The Doctor takes Rose home. But when a spaceship crash-lands in the Thames, London is closed off and the whole world is placed on Red Alert. While the Doctor investigates the alien survivor, Rose discovers that her home is no longer a safe haven. Who are the Slitheen? Next week's conclusion is World War III. |

Looked good -- what I saw of it. Damn SciFi Channel was messed up on my TV tonight. The picture kept going black and pixielating and the sound kept hiccuping.
Will this be rerun sometime before next Friday night? |

First time this series with a cliffhanger. I dont think CG aliens are really a Dr. Who thing, but it's nice to see London.

Long time lurker, but I've decided I'm going to have to post on this one....
For those of you who aren't sure about Rose....Believe me, as a long-time Dr Who peeper through years of US public television watching...She ROCKS! That is, compared to "companions" of other incarnations of the past Dr's. Most of the past companions were just screamers and/or reactors. Rarely were they willing and eager participants in the adventure....like Rose seems to be. In fact, the closest to an equal partner was Ace from the Sylvester McCoy era... |

Re: Dr Who on Sci Fi channel
Quote: Gallifrey wasn't destroyed during the past series. The event that destroyed it (which will be mentioned in future shows, for those watching along in the U.S.) was "recent", or as recent as time travel allows. Rose is a lot like Ace, isn't she? I don't think that's an accident of casting. I like her on the show, but I really feel uneasy with how her character develops as the show goes on. It's very, very different for Doctor Who, and I can't say I like it. |
