Well, strangely this is the only host left without a thread (deservedly?) and I know we all think Fallon is a total FAILIN but maybe the dude needs his due.
For one, this guy is the only talk show host who gives much respect to video games. As far as Leno or Letterman they may as well not exist past Pacman. Whenever Fallon plays video games, or has video game guests it's usually a really great episode.
Fallon's Pants on the Ground was completely brilliant and made me think he really was Neil Young. Second viewing I figured it out but really, great job.
Here is how I would fix Jimmy Fallon's show. Assuming it even needs fixing but it's just my idea so don't get too bent out of shape. With all due respect to Paul Shaffer, The Roots are the best band in the land. Fallon's musical guests always do pretty well, and Fallon himself can sing in a funny frat boy way.
I would reimagine Fallon's show as the new Top of the Pops meets Midnight Special. Fallon is the host, but he interviews a musical guest in between songs with The Roots, occasionally they will let a stand up comedian do a half hour bit and he would spend the other 15min doing a interview. Sometimes he would do Videogame bits to kill 15min if a good new game was coming out like Madden 11.
Anyway as a music fan I would be stoked to imagine this. Check out just a few potential guest singers who would jam with The Roots for 30minutes.
~wavy fantasy hands~
The Roots featuring Jack White! Okay imagining a funk spin on Seven Nation Army with Jack wailin on guitar is getting me hard. Or Doorbell??? With no limitation on drums having the best drummer on Earth ?uestlove Jack White goes crazy. Setlist on a 30min show could be legendary, we could finally hear a Death Letter or Jolene?
The Roots featuring Al Green - Love and Happiness with The Roots? Yummy! Corrine Bailey Rae comes in and the place immolates instantly.
The Roots featuring Karen O - Y Control or Heads Will Roll + The Roots sounds freakin cool to me.
The Roots featuring Jay Z - Natural fit, Roots provides beats Jay Z tears the roof off.
The Roots featuring (Beth Gibbons) from Portishead - Those triphop beats played by the best band? Dripping with sex.
Anyway sorry the long post, just a ..fan...tasy.
