The Real Housewives of Orange County will always be a show that I just can’t turn away from. Regardless of how I feel about Vicki, Tamra, Lynne, and Gretchen, it’s the perfect antidote to channel-surfing boredom, simply because you don’t have to pay very close attention to still understand the drama. (On any given episode just accept any of these philosophies: “Tamra’s a bitch,” “Vicki’s a bitch,” “Gretchen’s a gold-digger!” and you’ll be set.) Despite my twisted love for the show, the most recent season felt tired. (The same goes for The Real World, another reality staple.) I tried to get behind new shows like High Society and Fly Girls – an evil I wish upon no one — hoping to find moments of brilliance hidden under a pile of ridiculous and borderline-offensive story lines. But alas, it seemed like there was no Jersey Shore-esque cure for my reality TV blues. Until now! WE tv’s newest creation Sunset Daze, about the AARP card-carrying crowd in Sun City, Arizona (see the video after the jump) premieres on April 28th. Take the ladies of Orange County, jack their ages up a few (or 20) years, plop them down in a retirement home, and bam! Reality TV gold. Or something like that.. http://www.wetv.com/sunsetdaze

I managed an event for senior citizens for a number of years and old people are super interesting and many of them have great stories. As bad as some of their attitudes could be, most of them were really great people.

Wow. That came out worse than what I meant and I hope I didn't offend you Carboys. What I meant is that some of them were ornery. Set in their ways and they bitched about everything. You'd give in to what they wanted and they were still pissed. For like years afterwards. All the others were great. In fact, there was one mobile home park I worked with where every day a different senior citizen would buy me lunch. And the days they'd bring us baked goods, those were good days. I miss my Winter Texans sometimes.

I am over the housewives and to see real women with REAL friendships and interests its amazing and refreshing. These are people who still connect and have a love of life. I shudder to think of the next generation of Sucks retirees all congregated together at the home but all of them talking through their character nics via the computer. SCINTILLATING. The women are funny and the men are well men.. sex obsessed and afraid to be alone. But hell they could teach the younguns about dating. You know talking, flirting and saying good night not jumping bones 15 minutes into meeting them. I am very intrigued by the ex Nun. What a broad. She I think has a lot to say and her love of life is amazing. What a fucking repressed existence she must have had and yet no bitterness or sense of anger from her. She rocks. And I love Jill Zarin and her gay cowboy son. Dear God they are hysterical. I of course am Sandy.

The old broads and $@#$% are clearly much better "actors" than those schlumps on The Hills or Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Gail and her ever-unraveling hair kept me entertained throught the night. Ann (The ex-nun) I found fascinating. Not only does she have an interesting story, but girl has the skin of a newborn baby (without plastic surgery, I'd guess?). I lol-ed at the inclusion of an African American man in the credits. We never even saw him last night. Poor guy, he's just filling the quota.

This show is refreshing. I hope we don't find out that the lady with the gay cowboy son is keeping a Zarinesque enemies list on her friends. I loved her concern for the animals at the rodeo.

I was increasingly disappointed as to where it was going and the last episode where Sandy takes her daughter to a drunken dinner to celebrate her sobriety. Talk about insensitive and explains why the daughter was into drugs. Mom is a typical boomer. Self involved, into denial and completely unaware of how her choices affected her daughter. Even now with a daughter's health on the line you would be subjecting her to that....God how sad. Jack. God dude when does fucking stop being important? This man can't go a day without a woman and I don't think its about sex its about fear of being alone. Another great boomer trait.. FEAR... boomers fear age, being alone, democrats, black people, hippies. Its 1970. Yes David Brooks is right all of this can be traced to the 70s. And by that I mean in ages... you can't go alone to a flying thing that YOU want to do.. and she has to sit and watch YOU and then help YOU with YOUR vomit. Another self involved asshole no wonder Kathleen said don't care ..... Then the creepy beauty pageant... yikes. This could have been interesting exploring real issues about real people but its just badly done. Glad its gone frankly as if I want to talk to boring seniors I will go to OT and engage Thro.
