As the Lost story unfolds, I suspect we'll be hearing more and more about Charles Widmore (played by Alan Dale) , a character deserving of his own thread methinks.
What we know :
Filthy rich member of the Widmore Family.
Father of Penelope Widmore, who is in love, (much to her father's displeasure) with Desmond Hume.
While Desmond was serving his time, Charles intercepted letters that Desmond wrote to Penelope during his time in jail
Attempted to bribe Desmond to cease the relationship and never see Penelope again.
Sponsored the sailing race around the world that Desmond, in an attempt to regain his honor, was participating in when he crashed into the Island.
Suspected owner of Widmore Labs, as well as Widmore Construction.
Strong possibility that Charles financially contributed to the founding of the Dharma Initiative, either directly or indirectly via The Hanso Foundation.
Interesting theory : Charles is Alvar Hanso.
