I went back through 4 pages looking for a thread on Rousseau and was surprised to find there wasn't one. Danielle is one of the most interesting and mysterious characters in the show.
I was reading the threads of a poster called insiderscoop at the ABC Lost forums and he piqued my curiosity about Dannielle. He brought up some very interesting points and questions about our crazy French lady.
Here ya go.. some Danielle facts/questions:
What we know (or think we know) about her (most of this comes from Sledgeweb's site):
1. She's been on the island for 16 years, living alone for all but the first few months.
2. She was part of a Science Team that in 1988 was researching the numbers transmissions.
3. She was 7 months pregnant with Alex when she came to the island.
4. Her group all came down with a sickness after being on the island for only a couple of months. Rousseau was forced to kill them all because of this sickness.
5. About this same time she changed the tranmission from the numbers to a distress message, the same message Sayid and our Losties heard in the beginning of Season 1.
Transmission, translated from French:
6. After she gave birth to her baby daughter Alex, the 'Others' kidnapped the baby and Alex has been looking for her baby ever since then.
7. Danielle has adapted in order to stay alive. She's become adept at setting traps, hiding, hunting and trapping.
8. She claimed to hear whispers in the woods and came to warn the survivors that the others would be coming for them. She told them they'd know it was going to happen when they saw the black smoke. She agreed to help them get dynamite so they could blow open the hatch, providing a place for the survivors to hide from the Others.
She leads them to an old Pirate Ship wreck named the Black Rock. It's in the middle of the jungle in "the dark area." The dynamite is in the ship.
In the end we learn that it was Danielle herself who stated the black smoke fire, all a distraction so she could kidnap Claire's baby, Aaron. When discovered, she explained she was hoping to trade the baby for her own daughter, Alex.
9. Later, she helps Claire and Kate find the Medical Hatch, which is where Claire was held when shs was kidnapped by the others. It was Rousseau who helped an unconscious Clare escape from the others. Claire finally recalls/realizes this.
10. Rousseau captures Fake-Henry Gale and takes Sayid to him so that sayid can interrogate him. Rousseau is adament that fake-Henry is an Other.
OK.. now for the questions:
1. Re her transmission, who is Brennan (or Brandon) and what do the keys he had go to? Shesaid they were all dead, but obviously Brennan isn't. Is he "Him". ?
2. The Others were going to cut Aaron right out of Claire. They didn't care about Claire living. Why didn't they do the same to Danielle to get Alex? Why did they leave Rousseau alive?

4. Why is Danielle so very sure that fake Henry is an other?
5. When Claire told Danielle about the "about 16 years old" girl that had helped her escape the Medical hatch, why wasn't Danielle more interested?
6. Why didn't Danielle get this sickness? If the others really do believe in this sickness (Desmond seemed to, as did Ethan in the Medical hatch) , why haven't they grabbed Danielle to do tests on her to find out whe she's immune?
6. Is Danielle a mole for the Others, or at least, one faction of Others?
I think there's much more to Danielle than she is letting on.
I like the idea that there's more than one group of others and that they are NOT working together.

This has bothered me for a while Im sure its just an oversight the writers made but, why does Danielle wait till everyone is dead before they make a distress call? If her group made a distress call immediately upon getting stranded then she must have changed it.
If this is the case then wouldnt she change it again after her daughter was kidnapped? She says shes all alone the others they are all dead. Doesnt mention her child at all on the distress call....
They got sick so quickly then her child was stolen and her transmission doesn't say ("help I'm all alone my team is dead and savages have stolen my baby") Her story seems thin to me....
