Was there a point to Season Two? |
Lead | |

Seriously... since Eko, Libby, and Ana Lucia are dead and Libby's story will never be told... why was the whole "tail section" thing neccesary.
Does anyone have an idea. |

Not to mention the mysterious hatch that kept us wondering during episode 1 which blew up at the end of episode 2.
Not one thing that happened in episode 2 meant a damn thing. I agree. |

Season 2 should've been the first six episodes of this season. So much of it ended up useless, and the important stuff was dragged on far too long (hatch stuff, Ben's imprisonment, Michael's constant assholery).

Good point. Without Season 2, where would they have fit in the Rose/Bernard flashback?

Quote: We didn't need Bernard for the Rose/Bernard flashback, just Rose. They could have stuck it in the "Hurley fixes a bus" episode. |

I take it this is a joke thread?
Season 2, on a serious note, did several things: 1. Introduced Desmond to us, as well as Dharma. 2. Established that Ethan's kidnapping scheme was no fluke. The Others WERE on the Island, and they had their eyes on the losties. (The tailies showed us their initial--and future?--intentions for the fusies.) 3. Introduced Ben Linus (as Henry Gale) to us. 4. To firmly establish that pregnancies and children were a key part of whatever was going on around here. 5. Gave a (poorly executed) exit strategy for Mike & Walt that tied in with the overall story line. 6. Introduced us to Penny Widmore, a potential rescuer who ties in with the storyline (see #1). 7. Continued to confirm that there are ties between these survivors that go beyond being on the same plane. Thus leaving no doubt that this, too, was key to the story line. On the ha-ha side, I guess you could say that it presented the losties with another food source besides fish and fruit! |

i was already starting to doubt the significance of season 2 right from the time 3x11 started airing. which just starts off an amazing arc for season 3 and making it the best season so far for me..(and that doesnt even include the 2nd juliet and desmond flashback and the overly (and hopefully worth it) pimped finale (also hopefully ben-centric))...
"But then you came striding along to make my dream come true" (familiar line?) Season 2 was still an important step that the storyline had to follow exactly because of all the points you raised esp. because of the penny/desmond storyline which as carlton mentioned in one of the podcasts, is central to the overall storyline of lost!! Luv ya!! thank you!! |

season 2 was important but part of its importance was diminished when all the tail enders wanted out of their contracts or were written off whatever. The only tallies left are cindy and bernard and they are seldom seen on the show.
If eko had stayed alive and was still a solid supporting character and libby stayed around to explain her being with hurley in the mental ward I think a lot of us would look at season 2 in a much better light. |

The tailies story could have been taken out completely and season two could have progressed quicker into season three, that's my main point.

There are 13 tailies in the custody of the Others (this includes Cindy & the kids): the three "strong" men taken on Night 1; the 9 (including the kids) taken on Night 12; and Cindy, taken on Day 48.
Bernard, of course, is with Rose at beach camp. 14 living tailies left. |

The point of Season 2 was to buy time for the writers to come up with the rest of the story.

libbys story will be finished at some point, through probably desmond or hurleys flashbacks, they will explain what happened to her because she was important in the plot.

Points to season 2:
1. To introduce Desmond & the Dharma Initiative which sets up important future story development. 2. Establish that the Others are kidnapping of the children and those they consider "good." 3. Explain how the 815ers are surviving by giving them a food drop. To be continued... |
