I would think that an island filled of mostly Judeo-Christan plane crash survivors would feel far away from home around Christmas and after finding out the world thinks they are dead, depressed. Are the writers just going to pass over the season without Huley dressing up as Santa Claus to lighten up everyone's spirits, Desmond catching game for Christmas dinner, or Sawyer and Kate exchanging some sort of gifts? Does anyong have a scoop on the supposed on island date of the finale this year? Does it happen on Dec 24th etc.. I know this may sound far-fetched, but after spending a few holidays overseas while in the service, thoughts of family and the ones back home should be weighing HEAVILY on Lost island right now. I'd give the writers some leeway on how much to show it being that it is now May here and only us at Sucks would think about what day it is on Lost Island, but there has to be some attention paid to it, yes?

I say that the only holiday that recognize/celebrate/mourn will be New Year's, sometime next season.

I'd place my bet as having something to do with the finale. I'd still wish they'd throw us a bone as to how the survivors celebrate the holidays. If Ben kills people on his birthday, what the hell does he do on Christmas eve? Head for the high ground!

I think the writers are restrained to end the story without explaining things in super detail. So it's my conjecture that the island will now start to sink and will disappear under the waves by the end of the series. It's not unreasonable to think that the island has risen up a bit since the mid 1800's since the Black Rock appears to be stranded at a much higher altitude (though it could have been a tsunami or storm that moved it up there). Let's see, the Black Rock disappeared in 1881, and what happened on August 26th of 1883? Krakatoa went kaplooey and caused a large 120 foot tall tsunami. Perhaps the crew of the Black Rock did something on the island that caused Krakatoa. Perhaps the Losties did something on the island that caused the 2004 geologc events. Perhaps. Regardless, my guess is that the failsafe has screwed things up so much that the island itself will cause a strain the Earth's crust that causes the large earthquake that caused the tsunami in the real world. Everyone on the island will realize that the island is starting to sink and the new theme in the show will be for people to actually start trying harder to get off the island and be rescued. So when Jacob says "help me" it could mean that Jacob represents the island or is the island personified for whatever reason. Help me, I'm sinking! The whole button pushing stuff was to keep the world from ending. I don't think this was meant in a literal sense, but instead to keep the island from disappearing or sinking. Since the whole point of the Dharrma Initiative was to figure out and determine how to alter the Valenzetti equation a lost island means lost research and the inevitable end of the world, from a human extinction point of view. I don't think the island is necessarily Atlantis, but it sure could sink like Atlantis!

Further, even if they did get the tsunami, it's unlikely it would be a major plot event, since the real tsunami occurred well after the series began to air.

Thanks for the inspiration, Misterpuff! Anti, maybe they were thinking of a tsunami at the get-go, and real life gave them the green light! A typhoon, volcanic eruption, or EMT anomaly "aftershock" are other possibilities. It COULD all be character-driven in the Finale, yes. But with all the promises that the aftermath of the Purple Sky Event was coming, I sure can't think of a better time for it to arrive!

You don't think that they'd use an event that killed an estimated 300,000 people worldwide in the show? The initial surge was 100+ feel tall! Even if it hit Lost island at 20 feet tall or so, it would wipe out the beach (and maybe some redshirts) Normally the Pacific Islands had a tsnaumi warning system in effect, however, thanks to Purple Haze, it most likely won't trigger any warnings on the island. Never mind if the island is actually in the Indian Ocean instead... They used the Sox winning the 2004 Series on the show. Here's my theory (Some thought stolen from the frenchchicks thread) Final act of 3.23 Through the Looking Glass * Battle of Losties vs Others on Camp Lostie. A few characters have been injured in the fight, though the degree of severity is not known, and now hand to hand combat has ensued. * Richard runs up to Ben who's watching from a distant cliff. Ben: Where's Tom? Richard : Blown up Sir! One person stops fighting, then annother, until everyone looks out at the Ocean. Camera cut View from the beach of a 40 foot wave approaching the island Hurley: What the Hell is that? Jin: Unintelligable Korean* Sawyer: Ah Hell! points gun at the water Juliet: I had nothing to do with this. squeezes Jacks hand Jack: Don't worry everyone, Juliet and I have a plan! Black First Act 4.1 Season Premier Jan 2008 The wave crashes into shore leaving everyone scrambling for their lives. Some climb trees. It's a madhouse as everyone is scrambling. Hurley gets the best of it though as his 99% body fat ratio keeps him on top of the water. He keepd drifting by people clinging to trees saying, "What's up dude?" reguardless of its a man or woman. The water just keeps coming and rising with several Losties disapearing under the water. Then finally the water pulls back leaving tons of crap on shore, a pink thong and a beige bra next to some Horseteeth clamped to the branch of a tree, and a beached boat named Elizabeth. Desmond staggers down to the boat to find Michael and a boy who sort of looks like Walt lashed to the railing, both alive but stunned. Michael looks up at Desmond Desmond: Welcome back Brother, thanks for bringing me boat back. camera pans back to the beach and far too many have people have survived to be realistic, but they all stumble back to the beach surveying the damage. Certain channels of the Pacific plate trafficked waves to some places in N/S America, including reports of 8-foot waves in Mexico. The area the Island is believed to inhabit was nowhere near any of these channels. None of the other affected areas of the Pacific reported waves higher than a foot or so, if at all. So if they are "hit" by the tsunami they shouldn't even notice, and any major depiction of a classical tsunami would be ludicrously unrealistic.

The lostie army is off attacking the Others' camp (guided by Karl), so they're inland. Since they can't leave everyone else in the wide-open-to-attack beach camp, everyone else is either at the caves or at The Pearl. Both places are on higher ground. They probably packed and took clothes, meds, essential stuff. The wave hits. Beach camp is destroyed and washed out to sea. Whatever wasn't taken with the losties is gone. Fortunately, the Others were defeated, and the tent camp (with far better tents than the losties had before!) is now theirs! Karl and Alex (now joining the losties) tell them that the Others feared this one place, with the remnants of a statue from ancient times. The 4-toed foot! Sayid, Jin, and Sun remember! So that becomes the new lostie camp. Miraculously, no wave hit there, so the ruins remain intact--and so, the losties acquire some safety from the Others (who probably aren't interested in attacking right now, anyway). However, no ruins will deter the New Nemesis, about to descend on the Island. . . . LOST. (At the end of Eppy 4.1)

I'd give them more credit for including it in a story as that would give us some clues to the show (the island IS in the Indian or Pacific Ocean, it really is Dec 26th 2004 in the outside world) I think if they don't pay it any attention, which I'm sure they will, it leads to more questions. What bugs me is that this HAS to happen. If you were doing a show set at Pearl Harbor and the date on the show is Dec 7, 1941, and you didn't show anything relating to the Jap attack, the show would lose almost any shred of credibility. ETA that when they filmed the 1st season, it was filmed BEFORE Dec 26th, so incorporating it as a plotline now doesn't strike me as making it up as they go along.

We all know that it appears to be a relatively closed system with specific entry/exit points. Desmond simply sailed in a large circle and could not escape the island. So why would a tsunami wave be able to hit the island? (For that matter how would the sun be able to shine on the island either, but I digress.) But we do know that there are special places on the planet that are probably connected to each other through the interior of the planet. You know, the healing locations, etc. The Swan station going kaplooey could be an event which would disturb the planet, cause an earthquake elsewhere on the planet (near Java) and cause the 2004 tsunami. Now an earthquake on the LOST island could cause a tsunami within the "cloaked" region, but it would end up being more like water sloshing around in a bathtub I suppose. So to investigate this theory a bit more we need to examine the date of the original "incident" on the island that necessitated the installation of the button pressing computer and the failsafe switch. Do we know what that date is? If anything else huge happened on the planet after the incident we might begin to see some linkage to real world geologic events.

Posts: 160 (05/15/07 8:32 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	OK I cross-checked Sept 22, 2004 (when Desmond didn't push the button, and flight 815 crashes) with weather and geological events. Huricane Jeanne was in the Atlantic, but otherwise, nothing happened. So we can guess that the earthquake on the island didn't cause any damage off the island. We still don't know if events off the island effect it. The sun shines, the ocean flows (how far is a good question) clouds pass overhead, so it's unclear how closed of a system it is.
