Can't they cut the cable? |
Lead | |
|
I still have not gotten a good enough explanation as to why they should just not cut the cable to The Looking Glass. If it were to lose power then it could no longer jam any radio signal. Is there an electrical engineer on here that can exaplin also how a radio jamming device works under water? Why would Dharama place it there?

Good Point. Wouldnt cutting the cable un-jam the signal. I am missing something?

I was complaining about this during the episode as well. It doesn't take a genius to try cutting the cord and seeing if that disables the station. No, let's try the difficult task of swimming underwater to it, finding some switch and flipping it first. :eyeroll:

It only jams Danielle's radio tower transmission. The others are still able to use it to get their own signals out. The Losties will need the sonar down there to get THEIR signal out. If they cut the cable everything would be useless.

Fluffy, is that so? From tonights episode, based on what Sayid said, I thought that they only needed to deactivate the station to stop it from jamming the transmission, not to take it over to use themselves. Did I miss something?

Of course, it could be that the Looking Glass actually generates power for the island.

No, Sayid didn't say deactivate the station he said deactivate the jammer by flipping the blinking light switch. Juliet said Ben still uses it send out his own signals.

Fluffy's right. If the cable was cut, noone would be able to send a signal.

Cutting the cable might be dangerous in the sense that it could electrocute the cutter. Much better to break the cable by blowing it apart with one of those plentiful sticks of dynomite.

I am so simple minded. I didn't even think of cutting the cable. Who cares if it disables what you don't even know that helps you? From the losties perspective of course.
At this point, anything that puts the others at a disadvantage is a plus. And maybe that is what is keeping this whole island "hidden" from the rest of the world anyway. Cut it. CUT IT, I say!! |

Sure, they can cut it...if they want to be on the receiving end of 20,000 volts.

We know the cable is connected to the underwater station but what's on the other end of it?
Also, It would seem as though the Losties would have explored pretty much every inch of their island but how are they missing hatches, ships, vehicles, etc. I'm glad they at least showed the cable in an earlier episode so that its not so random but this island seems to have tripled in size lol And Alex's boyfriend was able to paddle to the Losties side so quickly? I guess you have to check your belief system and intelligence at the door LOL |

Not that it's unrealistic but we are talking about a guy who has been lobotomized, brainwashed, drained of energy etc. Could he really paddle AROUND the island to find the Losties when he doesn't know exactly where they are versus the man who can trek THROUGH island and they know exactly where to go.

It's an island. He'll find them eventually.

Why not use one of the sticks of dynamite to break the cable? One stick and... kaboom... broken cable... no electricution problem.

I can't believe you all missed why they can't cut the cable...it's SO obvious;
If they cut the cable, then they wouldn't have been able to send Charlie to the underwater station to become a hostage to two, hot, unidentified, militant lesbians, thus giving us MORE questions to worry about until February of 2008. Were you people born yesterday? |

The cable might be for communications, not power. Even if it is for power, we don't know which end is supplying power. The station could be sending power TO the island.
