But that one was shot down, too - Because he won't get new memories. He's not in a wonky timeline. If he had met them when he was a kid, then he has always known them.
I agree that he should be able to suddenly remember them like Desmond remembering what Faraday told him, but that keeps getting thrown out with "Desmond is special. Ben isn't".

Whoever is shooting that down is wrong. Charles Widmore had memories of Locke and he's no more special then Ben. Which is why young Ben said he didn't exactly work with the regulars. TPTB know what a fuck up of continuity it would be if he had. I think he might meet Juliet though, which is why he wants her on the island in 2001ish.

I think what is or isnt getting "shot down" is being misinterpreted, hostile6 :P

Felicia is saying that Ben isnt special like Desmond in the sense his past/present/future wont change from how it has always been/supposed to be.

When we met Ben in season 2, somewhere in the 2004 timeline....he either had memories of Sawyer, Julite, etc in 1977 Dharma...or didnt. We dont know yet. If we see young Ben having huge important interaction with Sawyer, Juliet, etc...that means when we first met him he ALWAYS had memories of them. It wouldnt be a new thing. We just didnt know it at the time. Everything we have seen these time travlers do (except for a couple of Faraday/Desmond related stuff) was not new stuff creating new timelines and new memories...it had always happened that way.

For example, Locke meeting young Widmore had always occured that way. When we first met Widmore in season 3 or so..he always knew of Locke. We just didnt know why yet. We know this because Locke also met Richard time travelling and told him to see his birth. This proves all the stuff we are seeing in the past was always that way..none of its new. Thats why we say richard last year going to see the birth of Locke. in 1954 Lock had always told him to go see.

The creators od the show have said this is a particular usage of timetravel they are doing. You wont see the characters constantly changing the past to create new futures (ala Heroes..their reference, not mine! :p). In fact they set the rules so thats its extremely difficult to do such things and run into paradoxes. Its a contained bubble.

Besides the couple of minor shifts that the miracously special Desmond has cause to the space time continuum (hes so far done 3 small changes to what was supposed to be)...the show has yet to show us ANY action by these people in the past creating somethign new that hasnt happened before. In fact, the fascinating part of the show this season is watching how all these actions by the losties in the past created the present we witnessed seasons 1-4. Everything we witnessed in seasons 1-4 were with the knowledge of everything they are doing in the past in season 5. When Sawyer first heard about Dharma, he had no idea that there was always a guy there named LaFluer, and it was his future self. But thats the way it was.

Thats not to say there WONT be newly created events later this season and definitely in season 6...lets face it, the whole show is about watching these characters try to escape their fate and destiny and change themselves...so well see alot of attempts with a lot of force feedback. But right now, mostly everything we see so far is what always has happened.

The show does a pretty good job telling us when there is a new event. And its told us that 3 times so far, only.
