The HII has become much too easy to find. As players have become wiser regarding production's methods of hiding idols, the idols have been hidden more and more lazily.
Imagine a Russell (or an Erik, don't forget he found one without clues as well) in the previous seasons:

Guatemala: I give Russell a one in ten chance of finding the idol. It's out in the open up an undescript tree away from camp in the middle of the rain forest. It's still difficult because he has no landmarks to guide him and hundreds of trees to check.

Panama: Suppose Russell is exiled without any clues. I give Russell a one in a hundred chance of finding it. He has limited time on exile island and would waste time figuring out it was buried. Once he assumes it's buried, he still doesn't know how deep and he could spend hours digging around the skull-shelter and every tree that looks suspicious. The island is pretty small though, so that's why I still give him a 1% chance of finding it.

Cook Islands: Suppose Russell is exiled without any clues. I give him a one in ten thousand chance of finding the idol. It is buried in the middle of a beach with no landmarks nearby. Without the clues to give him coordinates, he is searching for a needle in a haystack.

Fiji: Suppose Russell has no clues but he suspects the idol is around camp (so he isn't wasting time trying to find it at exile). I give him a one in a thousand chance of finding it. It is buried directly beneath the tribe sleeping area (which I thought was very clever of the producers). He wastes a day looking for it before deciding it's probably buried. He wastes days starts digging around trees and other landmarks. Digging in the middle of the camp is so indiscrete and counter-intuitive, I doubt he would find it. He has proven quite cunning, so I'll give him a one in a thousand chance of finding it after exhausting all other likelier hiding places. The idol hidden in the tree far from camp (found by Earl) would be easier to find, but it poses the same problems as the one from Guatemala.

China: Russell easily finds the idol. It is hidden in the decorative arch, a man-made landmark, which is the first place he looked in Samoa.

Micronesia: Suppose Russell is exiled without any clues. I give him a one in a million chance of finding the idol. The hiding place is non-descript and he wouldn't even know which island he was supposed to besearching! The one buried in camp (found by Amanda) poses the same problem as the ones buried in Fiji.

Gabon: Suppose Russell is exiled without any clues. The hiding place stands out (a large tree standing alone in the middle of a swamp) but the area to be searched is vast. I give Russell a one in twenty chance.

Tocantins: Russell finds the idol in thirty seconds. It's in the frickin tree-mail for crying out loud! To me, that was even worse than the Samoa hiding places.

Has the production team just gotten lazy or do they have a motive to make the idols easy to find?

That's great that you have that much time to type that shit and all, but that's absolutely retarded. Why would they send him to Exile with no clues? What are your odds that Russell would win the Tour de France on foot? I bet they're about the same as Lance Armstrong. If they don't have the tools they just can't do it.

The ones where you said they were easy, they (mostly) didn't have Exile Island, so that should be your first tip. Then with Guatemala, it obviously wasn't that hard, the only person with a clue was Judd, and basically that clue said 'It's in a tree'.

The reason Russell is good at this is because he thinks he's good, and he thinks he can find it. Sometimes silent cockiness is like having a huge dong, you don't have to show everyone, but you know what you're working with.
