13. Ben (1972)
This was Michaels first number one SOLO single out of his lifetime total of 13 (in the US). The song was meant to go to Donnie Osmond, but luckily ended up with Jackson. It won the Golden Globe for best song and was nominated for an Academy award as well as it was released with the movie "Ben" which was a sequel to the movie "Willard" from 1971. He was only 14 when it was recorded. |

12. Dont Stop 'til You Get Enough (1979)
Certified gold within weeks of its release, this song was an important career mark for Jackson as it was from his first album not with Motown, and was said to showcase his song writing ability. It has been several years since he had a top hit the the US, so this helped the country see he was going to be around for another generation of music. It must also be noted this was his first song with his trademark "hiccup" noises! |

11. Dirty Diana (1988)
This song was the fifth number one single from his "Bad" CD. Many compare the sound of the beat to "Beat It". From Wikipedia: "According to Michael Jackson in an interview, this song was scheduled for a live 1988 performance at Wembley Stadium during the Bad World Tour; however, Jackson felt the song would be an insult to Princess Diana, who was in attendance, so he had it removed. Diana informed him the song was actually one of her personal favorites." |
