The Amazing Race 14 is the fourteenth installment of the reality television show The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 14 featured 11 teams of two, with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world.

The season premiered on February 15, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and aired on Sunday nights^[3] with the season finale on May 10, 2009. The show is again hosted by Phil Keoghan.

1. Updates. Overall, I liked the new title sequence, with its much more fast-paced and energetic music, and how in various points in the season they'd replace the generic pre-race team footage with actual race footage, much like TAR1. I didn't notice the split-screen 24-esque editing that much, but when I did, it seemed like a nice way to segue into new scenes. Overall, I liked the changes, as it makes the show look fresher and less outdated, yet keeping the same spirit of the race.
2. Cheese. The first leg had one of the greatest tasks ever, as teams had to transport wheels of cheese downhill using these shitty cheese-carrying tools that broke apart easily. Pretty much all the teams struggled with this challenge, and it was hilarious watching Mel slowly slide down on his ass as a giant wheel of cheese passed by him in the background, or watching Luke run downhill only to trip and fall, or Preston trying to chase a block of cheese going downhill, all while the locals were laughing it up. It's hard for a task to be that great when it doesn't involve animals or locals throwing things, but that cheese task was gold.
3. Vampyric Meltdown. The Detour was between moving heavy shit for gypsies, boring, or stab some planks of wood through stakes to find a clue, which were filled with blood, which was pretty awesome, especially since we got to see Brad and Victoria completely covered in blood when they checked into the pitstop. The most memorable part of this episode though was Victor's meltdown, when he insisted that he and Tammy follow these markers that weren't actually clue markers. They end up wasting an hour or two of time just wandering around Romania, and it ends up being rather hilarious as Victor slowly realizes he's wrong while still ignoring Tammy's insistance to go back. Tammy was right, but Victor's ego didn't want to admit it, so they traveled around some more until the crying Victor finally caved in, and they finally found the task and managed to avoid elimination because Brad & Victoria missed a connecting flight. Pretty hilarious to watch.
   
4. Mel & Mike. Probably my most favorite TAR team in a long, long time. A rather unique father and son team, with the father a gay activist and the son a bisexual Hollywood writer, they were always enthusiastic about racing and were constantly in high spirits. They really reminded me of teams like Kevin/Drew, the Chas, and Ken/Gerard in that they were competitive, yet always tried to have fun and enjoy themselves as well. Mel, despite being pretty old and having trouble working at times, actually impressed a couple times, once by being the only person to actually hang-glide after all the other teams chose to walk due to having to wait for favorable wind conditions, to outsmarting everyone at a Roadblock by using the designated baskets to carry hay while everyone else was using smaller buckets, thus letting him actually beat everyone else. They ended up getting 6th overall due to some bad taxi luck, but they are easily one of my favorite teams of all time, as they played hard, played smart, and overall had a great time.
5. Mark & Michael. Stuntsmen, brothers, and pretty short. Their most notable achievement is setting the record for accumulating most penalties during a race, with a whopping four. They got first in a leg, but got two penalties, one for tampering with bike equipment (which I personally considered a bullshit penalty) and another for hiring a taxi to lead them when the clue prohibited it (completely fair), knocking them down to third place. Then, the very next leg, they bargained to pay a taxi or two with personal items they brought with them on the race, which turned out to be against the rules, so they got two more penalties and got last place. It was a non-elimination, but between the Speed Bump and having to continue their four-hour penalty, they were as good as eliminated the next leg anyway. Other than that, I liked them, as they enjoyed themselves and had a good time while still staying competitive.
6. Leg 9 controversy. There was some good controversy between Margie & Luke and Kisha & Jen in China, where they fought over a couple of clue boxes. If I remember correctly, it was Jen and Luke who fought each other, first when Luke tried to elbow away Jen when she tried to grab a clue, which she said and even signed was a bitch move, which Luke missed but Margie told him about after the scuffle. He then complained about how "Calling the deaf bitch is not nice," since, you know, he wants to show deaf people can be equals by exploiting his handicap to get pity and all. Then at another clue Luke actually runs into Jen, who tries to elbow Luke, I believe. Of course, they both race on, and both teams end up following Victor and Tammy, who knew the language and thus what they were doing. After letting Tammy & Victor do all the work for them, Kisha & Jen and Margie & Luke check in and have a scuffle. Margie and Luke start freaking out while Kisha and Jen nervously laughed, which set off Margie even more and talked about how they should know what Luke has to deal with since they're black, because being black and being deaf are the same thing. I wouldn't call Margie racist, but she sure is a fucking idiot. Then Luke starts whining about how deaf people are always put down, and blah blah blah. Kisha apologized for her laughing and Kisha and Jen handle the argument the best way they could, really, while Margie and Luke ramble on. It really made Margie and Luke look bad, especially since they kept pulling out the deaf card even though Luke's supposed goal is to show that deaf people are equal to other people. Maybe you would be equal if you didn't keep exploiting your deafness to gain sympathy, you ass, but I'll get to that in a moment.
7. Kisha & Jen. Decent team, though I didn't really start rooting for them until Mel & Mike left and I needed a new favorite. Two black sisters, with Kisha actually being a lesbian though that didn't come out on the show. Of course, then the scuffle with Margie & Luke happened and they became a great team for Luke haters such as myself to root for. Other than that, they were pretty competitive. In the F4, Jen was afraid to do a swimming challenge, and Kisha was really supportive of her despite Jen's desire to quit, and they ended up perservering and lucked out in being in a double-leg. They ended up getting U-Turned by Tammy & Victor after everyone got lost in Beijing, and it came down to a close race between Kisha & Jen and Cara & Jamie. Jen had to use the bathroom, so Jen went despite it being a close finish, and it may have cost them a spot in the F3 and the million bucks, though they might have lost anyway. A kind of sad way for them to go out, but oh well.
8. Margie & Luke. Luke was TAR's first deaf contestant, and he raced with his mother, Margie. He was an inspiration to the deaf community and showed what deaf people were truly capable of, doing such heroic acts as being unable to communicate with anyone besides his mother, letting his mother do all the difficult Roadblocks, crying when things didn't go slightly his way, and hiding behind his handicap whenever people called him out on his shitty behavior. Of course, Margie wasn't much better in encouraging his behavior and sheltering him the way she has. Of course, since he was deaf, TAR shoved him down our throats like they did Sarah, which just goes to show that Survivor does a much better job with handicapped contestants. Also, despite Luke's obnoxiousness, they were still a strong team, getting first three times and always ranking in the Top 4, a feat that I think only TAR6's Kris and Jon have matched. Luke had several meltdowns during the race, the first being when he had to unscramble the Russian name "CHEKHOV" and started crying like a bitch after only trying it four times, including the now-famous "COEHKVH" attempt. Another was of course his freak-out with Kisha & Jen at the pitstop, but the best one was easily in the final leg. They were dominating the final leg, then made the final task, where they had to find surfboards and put them in order based on tasks they've done. Luke manages to get the first eight or nine right (don't remember if there were ten or eleven total), but then gets stumped on the last two, where he starts melting down and freaking out and overall acting like a child. Then, hilariously, Victor and Tammy shows up, and Victor smokes him, even though Luke had a huge advantage. If he had kept his cool instead of acting like a child at the first sign of trouble, they could've won, but it was Luke's own sour attitude that cost his team the million bucks. He'd probably still be there too if Jamie didn't outright tell him the answer at the end. A fitting end to a shitty team.
9. Jamie & Cara. Former NFL Cheerleaders who quickly made an alliance with Margie & Luke. Probably best known for Jamie's fondness to scream at locals and cab drivers. Yeah, there were tons of people who were ugly Americans, but Jamie was one of the best at it, constantly getting pissed whenever locals didn't speak English. Hell, even when they did speak English, she'd freak out like she did in the final leg. Hilariously, they never won a leg, and were lucky that Luke was inept enough for them to even get second place. I wasn't a big fan of them, but I'd take 11 teams of Jamie & Cara before another Margie & Luke.
10. Victor & Tammy. An Asian brother/sister team, so of course most of Sucks liked them, even though Victor was a controlling prick a lot of the time. They didn't really get that featured until Victor's meltdown in Romania, where he learned to listen to Tammy, and they actually started getting along better and started dominating the race, netting five first-place finishes, including the last leg after Victor passed that shithead Luke. They weren't my favorite team, but they were a nice team to watch overall and were still much better than the alternatives.
