(WPRI) - "Survivor" winner, and Rhode Island resident, Richard Hatch is scheduled to be released from federal prison Tuesday. Hatch, 47, of Newport, is currently serving a four-year, three-month sentence for income tax evasion. Much of his sentence has been spent at a federal prison in Morgantown, West Virginia. He will be released from the facility to a halfway house where he will spend the next six months. From there, his supervised release will begin. Hatch was found guilty of not paying taxes on the $1 million he won on the first season of "Survivor." Since his trial, Hatch has claimed the show was rigged.. He has also said the producers offered to pay his taxes on the winnings, when he confronted them about the cheating. CBS has denied Hatch's claims.

I don't have a problem with it, because I would have quit watching if Rudy had been voted off. (Not because I like the homophobe, but because his sound bites were the reason I was tuning in, and having all three old people go first would have been tedious.) What I have a problem with is that it's possible someone DID tell Hatch they'd pay his taxes if he kept his mouth shut, and then they conveniently forgot about it. I find Hatch funny and charming so I want to believe this.
