First we have "Tea Parties", also unfortunately known as Teabagging. Look it up. The creators of the movement came up with the term themselves. It's the name of the official website. MASSIVE FAIL.
Speaking of protests, I can't find the posts now, but more than once TRhoda and her ilk laughed down their noses at liberal protests against the Iraq invasion and smugly assured us that Republicans don't partcipate in ridiculous protests. Oh really? I don't remember anyone wearing costumes to protest the invasion of Iraq.
Then we have Limbaugh and his dittoheads declaring that Obama's policies are making America less safe, a message Dick "Syphillis has a higher approval rating than I do" Cheney took to the airwaves (why he was given airtime to attack the Obama administration when less than 20% of the population can stand the sight of him is a mystery). In fact, not less than 45 minutes before the Navy Seals rescued the captain, Newt "I was run out of Washington on a rail, why does anyone give me airtime" Gingrich was on TV proclaiming that Obama's policies had made this country less safe and that he had failed his first commander in chief test with his handling of the pirate situation.
Oops.
But the Republicans, who lost two elections in a row appealing only to their nutjob base and no one else, who so obviously need to move past being whiny crybaby tittysuckers to participating in rebuilding this country, who need to move the dial just a little to the left in order to be in sync with the rest of the country, just can't do it.
Oh no. No, no, no.
Which brings us today. Texas governor Rick Perry, a Republican, natch, declares that the fedreral goverment has become oppressive.
I believe the federal government has become oppressive. It's become oppressive in its size, its intrusion in the lives of its citizens, and its interference with the affaris of our state.
Texans need to ask themselves a question. Do they side with those in Washington who are pursuing this unprecendented expansion of power, or do they believe in individual rights and responsibilities laid down in our foundational documents.
Where're you gonna' stand? With an ever-growing Washington bureaucracy, or are you going to stand with the people of this state who understand the importance of state's rights.
Texans need to stand up. They need to be heard, because the state of affairs that we find ourselves in cannot continue indefinitely...
...We think it's time to draw the line in the sand and tell Washington that no longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas. That's what this press conference, that's what these Texans are standing up for. There is a point in time where you stand up and say enough is enough, and I think Americans, and Texans especially have reached that point.
Okay, first, who the fuck are you? And second, where the fuck were you when the Patriot Act was passed? Why did you not complain when it was revealed that American citizens were being spyed upon with no jusitication or warrant?
Oh yeah. You were in the majority then, so anything the federal government did was just fine by you. States rights was just a really only about keeping the black man down anyway.
Now that you are the minority party, and a black man is president, abracadra! States rights trumps all, and the extraordinary federal power grabs that Dubya made, which didn't concern Republicans at all at the time, is now an issue,
Well, you were warned. Fuck off asshole.
