Oh give me a break. Old people are useful when they have something to contribute. The same is true for every single person to play the game. Even Scunt managed to get her tribe to keep her because she had something to offer (working hard for the tribe). Scunt even managed to lose Yasur its first IC, a non-physical one, and STILL was not even close to on the chopping block. Gillian, on the other hand, offered nothing, and she would not STFU about elephant dung. The tribe had no reason to keep her because she pissed people off, offered zero help in the challenges, and she couldn't even make a strong alliance to keep her safe in the future. Countless old people have made themselves useful by making themselves a number or a loyal member of an alliance, but Gillian couldn't even do that. Surely Fang could have afforded to keep a slightly annoying mactress who could actually serve a purpose to the tribe.

ETA: But PT, Michelle was one of the strongest competitors. Even more so than Olympic Gold-Medalist, Crystal. She was the first woman to make it to the top of the hill and she was certainly more valuable than some of the other Fangs who were practically giving up in the first challenge *coughGCcough*.

GC may not have had his heart in the challenges, but as a relatively fit, younger male, he was bound to be an asset in several challenges anyway. Michelle was able to climb a hill quickly. Good for her (although I'm sure several of her tribe mates would have been able to beat her to it if they weren't worried about helping the rest of the tribe or putting an unnecessary target on their backs as an early physical threat). But she killed tribe morale and with her body mass, she would have quickly faded away into a truly useless member of the group. She might have been agile for a round or two, but that didn't make her worth keeping, because it wouldn't be long before she wouldn't be able to handle the elements, and it was immediate that she sunk any hope at the tribe being a happy, cohesive group.

I don't think a lot of the people running up the hill were worried about what others though. Remember, this was a crew of pathetic strategists, and they probably stopped to hang with the slackers once they realized Marcus/GC won immunity.

Anyways, from the way you describe Michelle, she sounds like Jolanda, whom I think we all agree it was stupid for Ulong to boot. Ulong had plenty of other physical assets like Bobby Jon, Ibrahim, Jeff (with a good ankle), and even Steph. Yet Jo was booted for similar reasons that Michelle was. Both were too agressive and Jo actually lost Ulong the challenge, too. Maybe she would have faded into an INV chick, but if she gets her tribe to the merge with numbers, then she would have been worth keeping. The same is true with Michelle. If Fang can win the next IC (which they came pretty close to doing with Gillian, so with a stronger person they may have been able to) then they get the numbers going into the swap and get to send one of their own to exile, where the HII may not have been discovered. Obviously they could not have predicted the swap would come then, but seeing as Gillian seemed just as annoying and bothersome as Michelle, there was no reason to keep her. I actually liked her, but it was stupid of Fang to keep her over Michelle. She just had nothing to bring to the table.
