She's the only one who coasted to end game by being irrational.
And guess what, she'd still lose in a Susie/Crystal/Sugar F3, she should be added just for playing one of the worst social games survivor has ever seen, somehow managing to piss off 7 Jurors. |

It doesn't really belong on the list at all. Yeah, Gillian was old, but Michelle was a lazy mactress who constantly whined about sleeping on the ground.
At least the rest of the tribe could realize that being out there was a dream for Gillian and at least she did her best to work hard and offer team spirit
(even if it was annoying). I have to say that someone's enthusiasm for being out there would probably weigh on me a little if it came down to a vote.
I'd quickly vote off a whiny mactress over an old woman who wanted to be there, if given the choice.

I actually agree that voting off Michelle over Gillian was retarded. She seemed like a type to do well in challenges, and at this point, Fang was getting
massacred by Kota in the challenges. What they needed, more than ridding themselves of a whinny bitch, was a chance to come back and even the numbers with
Kota. All they have to do is win the next challenge and they're pretty much set for a while, and Michelle would have been a lot more helpful than Gillian
was.

In the very first challenge, Michelle was the first girl (and third person, IIRC) from both tribes to reach the top of the hill. And let's face it, Gillian is an old woman and likely to be useless in any physical challenge, which is what most of the challenges are (at least in this part of the game). Also, it wasn't as if people didn't have problems with her. They were annoyed by Gillian, and don't forget how hard Randy campaigned to get rid of her the first TC. |

So any tribe with a woman Gillian's age should automatically be on this list if they don't vote her out first? That's some virulent ageism there.
How about coming up with specific examples of how Gillian made her tribe lose (she didn't even get a chance to participate in the first immunity challenge)
instead of just blaming her because she's old. Look at it this way. The second immunity challenge involved pushing and stopping a heavy ball. Michelle
weighed about 80 pounds. Does anybody seriously think that switching her with Gillian would have changed the outcome of that challenge? Doubtful.

SwineForkbeard wrote:This doesn't happen too often, but I've gotta agree with Swine. This list would be flooded with tribes who didn't boot their old, weak member at the first possible TC if every decision to keep them around was considered monumentally stupid. Michelle was a liability, just like Gillian was. Whether she was more or less of one is debatable, but a tribe that keeps a weak link at their first TC is not necessarily a tribe that has done something idiotic by any stretch of the imagination. Tossing one of your strongest competitors (Jolanda much)? That's risky and potentially dumb. But tossing someone like Michelle is fair enough. |

SwineForkbeard wrote:Oh give me a break. Old people are useful when they have something to contribute. The same is true for every single person to play the game. Even Scunt managed to get her tribe to keep her because she had something to offer (working hard for the tribe). Scunt even managed to lose Yasur its first IC, a non-physical one, and STILL was not even close to on the chopping block. Gillian, on the other hand, offered nothing, and she would not STFU about elephant dung. The tribe had no reason to keep her because she pissed people off, offered zero help in the challenges, and she couldn't even make a strong alliance to keep her safe in the future. Countless old people have made themselves useful by making themselves a number or a loyal member of an alliance, but Gillian couldn't even do that. Surely Fang could have afforded to keep a slightly annoying mactress who could actually serve a purpose to the tribe. ETA: But PT, Michelle was one of the strongest competitors. Even more so than Olympic Gold-Medalist, Crystal. She was the first woman to make it to the top of the hill and she was certainly more valuable than some of the other Fangs who were practically giving up in the first challenge *coughGCcough*.

solesurvivor01 wrote:GC may not have had his heart in the challenges, but as a relatively fit, younger male, he was bound to be an asset in several challenges anyway. Michelle was able to climb a hill quickly. Good for her (although I'm sure several of her tribe mates would have been able to beat her to it if they weren't worried about helping the rest of the tribe or putting an unnecessary target on their backs as an early physical threat). But she killed tribe morale and with her body mass, she would have quickly faded away into a truly useless member of the group. She might have been agile for a round or two, but that didn't make her worth keeping, because it wouldn't be long before she wouldn't be able to handle the elements, and it was immediate that she sunk any hope at the tribe being a happy, cohesive group. |

Pulau Tiga wrote:I don't think a lot of the people running up the hill were worried about what others though. Remember, this was a crew of pathetic strategists, and they probably stopped to hang with the slackers once they realized Marcus/GC won immunity. Anyways, from the way you describe Michelle, she sounds like Jolanda, whom I think we all agree it was stupid for Ulong to boot. Ulong had plenty of other physical assets like Bobby Jon, Ibrahim, Jeff (with a good ankle), and even Steph. Yet Jo was booted for similar reasons that Michelle was. Both were too agressive and Jo actually lost Ulong the challenge, too. Maybe she would have faded into an INV chick, but if she gets her tribe to the merge with numbers, then she would have been worth keeping. The same is true with Michelle. If Fang can win the next IC (which they came pretty close to doing with Gillian, so with a stronger person they may have been able to) then they get the numbers going into the swap and get to send one of their own to exile, where the HII may not have been discovered. Obviously they could not have predicted the swap would come then, but seeing as Gillian seemed just as annoying and bothersome as Michelle, there was no reason to keep her. I actually liked her, but it was stupid of Fang to keep her over Michelle. She just had nothing to bring to the table. |

How was it any less stupid for Ogakor to vote out Kel instead of Mad Dog, or for Maraamu to vote out Peter instead of Patricia? If we're going to nitpick
over voting out the old bag second instead of first, at least be consistent.

Because not only was Michelle the first woman up the hill, but she was by far the best performer for Fang in the first IC. And it was obvious from jump that
Gillian wasn't going to mesh with the rest of the tribe. This is evidenced by the fact she was the next one gone. I agree Michelle was annoying, but when
you got absolutely smoked in the IC and she was your MVP by a HUGE margin, you suck it up and keep her till the next IC. If you lose that one as well, then no
harm done. But remember, the second IC they came damn close to winning, and Gillian contributed zero to that challenge. Swap Michelle for Gillian and you can
make a strong case that they may have won that IC. If after 2 TC's you're even at 7 apiece, it may have been a completely different story.
Obviously you don't just get rid of the old person automatically. Look at Bob, or Rudy, or even Sandy tonight. But in this case, holding their nose and keeping Michelle was the smart move. |
