The HBO production is going to premiere on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 8 pm, in HD. "They were steeped in affluence and privilege, never far from the spotlight that shone on their close relation, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Based on the lives that inspired the Maysles Brothers' 1975 documentary, this HBO Films drama tells the story of "Big Edie" Beale and her daughter "Little Edie"-the aunt and cousin of the former First Lady-whose eccentric, mutually dependent lives played out in a decaying house known as Grey Gardens. Starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange, the film details the Beales' love-hate relationship during two distinct time periods in their lives: the 1973 filming of the Maysles' film, and flashbacks from the 1930s on when Little Edie's dreams of acting stardom were quashed by her own weaknesses and her mother's interference. Jeanne Tripplehorn, Daniel Baldwin and Malcolm Gets co-star. The acting was outstanding and the story of their life is pretty compelling. I will definitely be watching this.

I was really uncomfortable during both documentaries, but I am glad I watched them . Really riveting stuff, just sort of sad - yet sweet... conflicting emotions get me. I am really excited for the movie now. And from what I've read from people who've seen it, this will transform Drew Barrymore's image into that of a legitimate actress.

Blasphemy! They score to Grey Gardens is the best one seen on Broadway in at least 6 years. I doubt I will be watching this, I know that Drew Barrymore cant be as great as the real little Edie and I highly highly doubt she can top Christine Ebersole either.

I was really taken in by the documentary several years ago and have watched it several times since. I remember thinking at the time, what a rare and riveting look into the lives of these two eccentric and fascinating women . What was interesting to me, was that the two brothers that filmed it, just fell into the whole thing when their original plan was to do a documentary on Lee Radziwell. I guess life really is like a box of chocolate, you really never know what you're gonna get. I'm like a lot of others, I don't think the movie can touch the original documentary, but I'll watch. I love all things Gray Gardens.

Since they are trying to explore more than just what the documentary gets into, much like the musical, it will only succeed if they can show exactly how they went from "American Royalty" to living the way they live. That was the main criticism of the musical, people couldnt believe they were the same people from Act 1 to 2.

Imagine my disappointment when I saw it was on HBO but it was about some stupid broadway musical. What a letdown. At least it made me put it on my Netflix queue so I could see it again.

The HBO production is independent of the musical. It's going to tell it's own version. But I do agree...I wish it were going to be released theatrically, where more people would see it. Or does HBO guarantee a bigger audience? I don't know about these things. S.I....I think the March 29th part was leftover from what was being advertised before Grey Gardens.
