I thought that the special affects were great and the concept was great but the camera was shaking so badly at some parts that I literally could not tell WTF was happening. What use is having amazing special effects when everything is happening so fast and the fucking camera is flying all over the place so you don't know what the fuck is going on?
The biggest problems for me were the scenes on the bridge when it I guess collapses in understanding what happened and then where they were (NYC or Brooklyn) and then when they ran out of the subway tunnel.
Spoilers - WTF's
* Who didn't know that everyone would fucking die in the first 40 seconds of the movie when it says that the footage was recovered in Central Park?
* I was not expecting reality but I just can't ignore the absolute lunacy of Beth being pinned by a piece of rebar after she was impaled by it and laying there for hours and hours and hours dying only to then be lifted off of it (the rebar would act like a plug/suction and help her survive - pull it out in one swift move and she's insta going into shock and dying without medical help) and seen running and totally fine once they hit the street. I guess she recovered in the walk down the stairs. Pfft.
* The friends leave the snack area of the subway only to magically walk out into the makeshift army base that happens to be right there out of all the places in NYC just in time for Lizzy Kaplan's character to explode? MORONIC
Why did she explode? Never explained.
* Healthy Lily is taken first over injured Beth. Umm.. whatever but of course we had to have Beth in the same helicopter as Rob. They take off and the monster is bombed and then Hud says that the monster died (are we supposed to really believe that?
They plummet to the ground in a helicopter crash but WAIT! the 3 main characters survive and seem to be totally ok but the crew all died instantly. ... and the stupidity continues.
* Now they are in Central Park and although the monster has been in the middle of the city for like 7 hours..it has now magically relocated to Central Park too in the exact spot that the helicopter went down just in time to kill Hud who is lifted up and then thrown back down to the ground but don't worry..
the magical camera that survives nuke attacks made it.
There was just so much stupidity that just ruined the movie. Good concept and Good execution sans the ridiculously shakey parts but the plot holes were a mile long.
Oh and lastly.. Lily? Did she even live? WTF happened there. She took off first and then....yeah. No closure there.
