But seriously, the only reason Faraday himself tries...so far..is cause its Desmond. Weve never seen him try anything on his own yet, have we?

The only reason he tried at the Swan Hatch is cause Desmond is his constant (now, wasnt always that way) and he had a history with Desmond changing the past...so he gave it a shot. It worked.

Dont forget, the only reason Faraday had a new past with Desmond before (1996 Oxford with the rats and the maze) is cause of Desmond's special time flipping conscious trip...he suggested 1996 mind Desmond to go meet him at Oxford, and give him a message. He didnt suggest this cause he had a memory of meeting Desmond in 1996, btw...he hadnt. He suggested it to help desmond, and Desmond actually did it! We saw Faraday at the end of that episode get a new memory in his head, and flip open his jounral to see if the message he wrote was actually there...thus proving something new he didnt previously remember.

It was THAT, that gave Faraday the idea to try and knock on the door himself. You saw him look at his journal before he tried, cause it was that entry that gave him the idea.

Faraday only tries, so far, cause Desmond was involved.

We'll see him try again with young Charlotte...im assuming trying on his own? But i dont think he believes he can prevent himself from talking to her left to his own devices...thats why hes depressed.
