I would have figured it out before the end anyway. I remember reading the episode thread and there were quite a few people posting they thought the FBs were FFs kinda early on. |

I was 99% sure the FB was an FF from the first scene with Jack. Much better figuring it out on my own than knowing it up front

So just began my re-watch of Season 3. And I know this is a rarity, but I have to admit to really enjoying S3 on first-watch, especially all
the Jack/Kate/Sawyer stuff.
Now, I had the luxury of watching the season (and those first 8 episodes in particular) in quick fashion thanks to the DVD and didn't come to learn until after the fact that the first portion of the season was so negatively recieved. So with this in mind, I figure I will honestly re-assess the first portion episode by episode... 3x01 - Elizabeth Mitchell brings her A game big time here. Every scene she touches is magic. Juliet brings such a sense of difference and urgency to each scene. The opening at New Other-Town still really works for me - a great reveal and gives you at least some slight insight into the Others. I liked the spreading apart of Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. After 2 seasons of building up the Others, having them handle three different characters in three different fashions really added to their aura. I'm still a fan of the cages so far. A few highlights: Sawyer calling Carl "Chachi" was made of total win, Sawyer's hilarious celebration after getting the fish biscut, and the Sawyer/Kate interaction. Holloway and Lily did fine work in creating a very tender moment between the two. While on the topic of Kate, the lunch with her and Ben was very effective in creating anticipation for what was to come and Friendly does really nice work throughout the episode in seeping in the idea that maybe the Others aren't so bad. It is a Jack episode but he and Juliet share the main-focus. I can honestly say that I loved everything thesw two did here. Mitchell plays Juliet with the perfect mix of caring and mystery. She is SO GOOD in this episode it is unbelievable. The Jack/Juliet interactions fire on all cylinders. They are dynamic, intriguing, touching, but all the while remain tense, which is a true testament to both actor's skill levels. Jack saying he is a "Repo Man" in response to a Juliet question is laugh-out-loud funny. If you don't remember this moment, find it and watch it - hysterical stuff. Jack refusing to take the food, letting the water in, Juliet knocking Jack out, there scene together before the close - all great. In fear of becoming redundant, I'll move on. The only thing I found a little far-fetched here was Jack's flashback. M. Fox is great at bringing intensity to a script, but I felt he went a little overboard this time. I understand where the character's head was at, what he was going through, but I would have liked it if Fox was just one notch lower. With that said, the story being told is still effective and all of the Jack/Sarah scenes are incredibly effective. The final flashback between Jack and Sarah is so well played and a great moment for Jack's character, past and present. He hears the thing he needs (although not what he had been wanting) to hear from Sarah, accepts it, and ultimatley is able to fully move on, with Juliet in his "cell". And again - Fox and Mitchell are top notch in their delivery. Solid cliff-hanger-ish ending and we are out. One episode in and my opinion on the season remains the same. I had forgotten just how good Jack and Juliet were here and overall, I still just like the feel this season let off. I am surprised this ended up being so long. If you guys like passionatley hate it, let me know! Off to watch 3x02... |

3x02 - This shouldn't be as long... I don't think.
I actually have a greater appreciation for this episode now as opposed to when I watched it originally. I have become a much bigger fan of the Sun/Jin relationship, which defintley led to me enjoying this a great deal. Overall, the episode defintley paints Jin in a more positive light. Wee see Sun cheat on him in the past and defy him in the present. While on the flip side, Jin is willing to kill for her in the past and do everything he can to protect her in the present. Hell, Sun's father comes off looking better (in his own way) then Sun, by ordering Jin kill Jae, but lying to him about why. The encounter with the Others on the boat still feels very intense and the "we are not the enemy, but if you shoot me, we will be" is quite epic, although I'm not sure if that claim every really pays off. The Sun/Jin reunion is a teriffic moment and Sayid admitting that he was wrong was solid character development for him. Overall, this was a great way of incorporating these 3 characters and adding more to the tension between the Losties and the Others. The Sawyer and Kate kiss/break-out attempt does many a things. Pleases the Sawyer/Kate shippers, shows the Losties are still fighting, and makes some of the Others look pretty legit. When Saywer and Kate get back to the cage, they have another great exchange and Sawyer saying very cold and calmy that Juliet would have killed Kate without hesitation was just great. Adds to the threat the Others present, the danger they are in, and further establishes Juliet as a complete and utter badass. Oh, and I know this will be very un-popular, but good lord did Evangeline look incredible in that dress. Jack and Ben at the end is made of total win. The role reversal of Jack being the prisoner and Ben being in control isn't fully explored but done enough to create for a great dynamic. And the clincher is Ben revealing the Sox won the series. For me, a pivotal moment on Lost that planted the seeds for everything Jack would attempt to do for essentially the next two seasons on the island. Everything about this agreed with me. As I said, I enjoyed it more this time then I did originally. I'm assuming the Locke/Boone episode may be where the Season started to loose people, but I could be wrong. 2 episodes in though and my opinion is not wavering at all. |

I didn't fall into that category. I loved the Otherville - Jack/Kate/Sawyer episodes. Excellent posts, TSO. |

FeliciaM7 wrote:Thanks Felicia, its comforting to know they are just being read!! 3x03 - First thing is first, the cinematography in this episode is phenomenal in spots. I suggest you go give this a re-watch just to appreciate the color and look of it. Really good stuff. Adressing the Charlie/Locke issues here was absolutley the right call. From a character-to-character standpoint, it was a big unresolved arc from S2 and by incorporating it here, allowed them ample air time to get to a happy medium and was a great plot device to explain and further along the events that happened in the hatch. As for the Locke/Boone portion of the episode... I still found it effective. It is defintley nowhere even close to the most far-fetched thing Lost has ever done and it really set the episode in motion. Plus, its pretty clear to me that it was just meant to be a little unsettling and eerie - it absolutley succeeded in doing such. Having Locke race out of the tent with the tease of the Polar Bear's return was a nice way to end it. Overall, this is a great Locke episode. I really like the Locke flashback even though I get a nosebleed trying to figure out where it fits in to the character's timeline. O'Quinn and Chatwin quickly develop a nice chemistry and I just find the backdrop of Locke being in a setting such as that interesting and intriguing. Filler? Yes. Enjoyable? For me, yes! I completley forgot the Polar Bear came back here. Really made the episode all the more enjoyable and advances the mythology (something that I'm guessing was a complaint about the first two episodes). Hurley coming back with the info from New Other-Town, Desmond beginning the "Constant" tease, the use of Ecko, everything works here. It really felt like something we would have seen in Season 1. Hell, I didn't even hate the introduction of Nikki and Paulo. Granted, they were only on-screen for about a minute, but still... it didn't suck! In short(-ish), this was another very good effort. At this point, everyone is involved and we have picked up right where we left off. Honestly, for me, these 3 epiosdes are much stronger then S2's worst. |

For me, yes!I'm thinking this is the Locke flashback I don't remember anything about. He was on a farm or something? I seriously tuned that one out. Worse Locke filler ever. Thumbs up for not hating on Nikki and Paolo. |

It wasn't really a farm, it was more like a commune with a greenhouse full of pot.

cindidindi76 wrote:Hah yeah, pretty much sums it up perfectly. I like the story for what it is - a means of advancing the on-island story and pure and simple filler. The biggest problem is it doesn't tell us anything new about Locke. We see him be a nice guy and pick up a hitch-hiker, be in desperate need of family, make bad judgment calls, and not kill an innocent man... we knew all of that to begin with. ... 3x04 - This is the flashback with Sawyer in prison and the "pacemaker" in him in the present. The first episode of the season that shares time between Jack/Kate/Sawyer AND the Losties still on the island. Its probably the weakest episode of the season so far, but still has some great moments and is by no means horrible. The biggest problem with it for me is that the idea that Sawyer would believe that Ben and the Others put a pacemaker in his body that would cause his "heart to explode" is just not believable. Tell the same thing to Hurley or Charlie, okay - they but it. After 2 full seasons of learning about this character, I just don't the Sawyer character would. The fact that in the Sawyer flashback, they show Sawyer pulling off a very intricate con doesn't help this notion. I completley forgot Sawyer put money into his daughter's bank account... I completley forgot Sawyer had a daughter. A strong flashback as we learn a valuable piece of information about James. Am I the only one who forgets about his daughter? I know they referenced her again, I just forget. This is also the episode where Juliet brings in Jack to save the Other Sun shot, he fails and initally see's Ben's X-Rays. All of this is really effective. More great work from Emerson, Fox, and Mitchell. And a lot more Sawyer/Kate Cage interaction, including where Sawyer is being beaten to a pulp and the Other forces Kate to say she loves him to make him stop. Very intense and very emotional. Love Lily or hate her, she brings the emotional heat at moments like these. Back with the Losties, Desmond is becoming more and more "Constant" like... I didn't remember they started teasing Charlie dying so early. Like I said, overall, this is the weakest episode of the first four, but still better then S2's worst. Still a fan. |

Didn't Sawyer realize they were on a different island in this episode? Isn't that how it ended? |

What I love about re-watching the episodes, is that you can always watch & find more layers. I'm not talking acting layers, although they are there
too. I am talking little nuggets that can sometimes pass you by. Like in the episode where we find that Desmond went to be a Monk & there is a picture of
the head monk (Monsiginor?) & Eloise. It also helps you look at things in the future epsiodes that have been set up but you may not realise it! LOVE IT!

3x05/3x06 - So I officially don't see where the hate on these episodes come from. I think I could go as far to say that this is one of the
strongest batches of episodes in the series history.
In these two we have Ecko's death via Smokey, which in turn gives u more information about Smokey, get a really great Kate flashback (her wedding/marriage), and the intensity level is through the roof. The only two things that I could guess people didn't like is the uber-focus on the JaTeWyer/Others and the opening of many new mysteries without really closing the book on any that were already in place. But to that point, to me, it is very clear that the show knew where they were going with this. The Others felt like a legitimate threat with a real plan. Maybe people expected them to harbor all the answers, I don't know. All I know is that for me, the first six episodes of Season 3 are great and without question add to the mythology of the show. |
