Since 2001, Survivor Sucks has operated completely ad-free. We accomplish this feat through a balanced diet, daily exercise and, most importantly, through the
continued support of our membership. About once a year, we doff our caps and stare at the floor while we humbly ask for donations to sustain our comfortable
living. This year we asked the President for federal assistance. He politely declined. We threw shoes at him. He asked us to leave. We banned the White
House's IP. He called in an airstrike on dmb's house. So once again it is up to you to shake up the couch cushions and help feed our collective
internet addiction.
On the yuku network, text-based ads appear in every few posts, in every page of every thread. They can be amusingly ironic, but mostly they're just frigging annoying and we want them to go away. There are two ways of accomplishing this:
1. Purchase Yuku Supporter. This is a "gold" subscription membership which costs $7 for six months or $12 for one year. It has some neat features like extra image hosting space and twice as many ghostnic profiles. But the relevant feature here is that you never see ads on any Yuku board, and your personal views of the board do not count against the ad-free views purchased through donations. You can purchase Yuku Supporter for yourself or you can "donate" a Supporter subscription to a poster less fortunate than yourself.
2. Make a donation to the board. A $6 donation buys 30,000 "ad-free" page views...in other words, the next 30,000 times threads are clicked by any regular member of the board, ads will not appear. Views by members who are Yuku Supporters will not count toward these paid views. The more views you buy, the cheaper the relative cost: $54 buys 360,000 views, a bulk savings of...whatever percent, you do the math. Additionally, every $6 you donate adds a free month to your existing Yuku Supporter subscription. That's just swell.
Ad-free page views start getting used up immediately. We're still a busy board, with reality tv as popular as it's ever been (the premiere of Tocantins was the highest-rated episode of Survivor since the Gabon finale). For lurkers who aren't logged in, ads will always appear, no matter what, because we could never afford to offset that much traffic. We're only seeking to cover logged-in members who aren't Supporters. On an average day, those folks use up between 35,000 and 50,000 ad-free views, with occasional spikes, depending on which shows are in season and who's been recently banned. So a $6 donation will buy less than a day for the board. However, if everyone donated $6, it would add up to a very long time indeed. You can check this thread to see how long the current supply is expected to last.
Donations will open on Thursday, February 19th and will remain open indefinitely, or whenever we feel like it, whichever comes third. If you don't want to donate, you don't have to. The board won't shut down, it'll just be covered with ads, and that's fine with us since we all have Supporter accounts. But be a dear and kick in some money. We know you've got plenty of it, otherwise you'd be working instead of sitting here.
