I'm guessing that Locke did get the island to stop flashing through time and the survivors plus Daniel, Miles, ect are all stuck in the past because they were in the past when Locke spun the wheel. So the plane has crashed, but a decade or so ahead of where our castaways are in time. This would explain why we've seen Jin and Daniel in Dharma suits. It looks as though they have been trapped in the past and had to assimilate into the Dharma initiative to get by. It would explain Daniel being able to warn Charlotte when she was a child too. Would anyone else find it inconsistant to what we understand about Lost IF: Flight 316 broke in half (like 815 did) and the front half landed in a completely different place than the tail section...having completely different experience on the island? And if the Island is still acting a bit wonky time warp wise, the front half could have "landed" in the 70's Dharma era while the talies (and water bottles!) landed in more of a "present" version of the Island?

I am thinking that the people in the back of the plan (flight 316) will be shown again and have an important role later on. Was Aaron back there? Ji Yeon? Desmond? And also... what other "proxy's" were there that we didn't see? Boone? Shannon? Libby? etc... Jin showing up at the end with a Dharma suit on and the "new" van show that the 06 landed in the 70's (roughly)... little Charlotte is somewhere... and is this how she learns to speak Korean... from a time traveling Jin? And when Faraday warns her never to return to the island? Remember in the first flashforward with Jack and Kate at the airport? Kate gets mad because Jack asks her why she didn't go to Jeremy Bentham's (Locke's) funneral... wondering why she would ever go see "him"... well in the preview for next week we see Locke talking to Kate and demanding something of her while they are back off the island. What happened there to make Kate SO addament about never laying eyes on Locke again? As for the theory as to why the helicopter didn't flash with the island but the plane did... I believe that all has to do with what Ms Hawking said... the "window of time" to get back to the island. Obviously that window of time was not present when the helicopter was near the island. And lastly... I believe that Sayid was the one that roughed up Ben. Sayid perhaps tortured Ben and Ben in turn had him arrested (clued as to him in handcuffs on the flight). I can't believe that Penny somehow got to LA that fast... on their BOAT! If she flew there to join Desmond... what's the purpose of the marina? Just seems improbable to me. Besides... Ben LIES... we need to remember this. I actually do not think that he ever intended on killing Penny. He wanted Widmore to fear that he was (Ben's manipulation at work once again). I think they want us to worry Ben has done away with Penny. I think he tried , but the island stopped him somehow. I think his injuries look like he's been in a car crash. Just my own speculation. I just really hope Lapidus doesn't end up like the original pilot did. I hope he is proxy for Sawyer.

Well, like i said, they are playing multiple proxies....Hurly, Kate, and Ben all doing Charlie things...so it would also make sense that Ben would be proxy to Sawyer, Hurly, and Charlie in different ways.

Unfortunately, I saw his name in the opening "guest starring" thing and was therefore not surprised he was flying the plane, but I was glad to see him. I'm not nearly as over the moon about this episode as a lot of you seem to be, but it wasn't terrible. I don't mind mehish (to me, because I'm not a real fan) episodes when they're setting up other stuff. And I think some of y'all are reading too much into Ben's mother comment, I think it was just supposed to be a joke. Yes, he did see his dead mother on the island, but I would certainly hope he could read before he got there, he wasn't exactly a baby. I'm guessing that Hurley had a visit from Charlie. When I saw Hurley with the guitar case, I figured he was taking it to the island for Charlie, not as a Charlie proxy. Same here. And it would explain why Hurley didn't want to say who told him about the flight. But was anyone else wondering how he got out of LA County lockup?

I doubt he could have been at the marina and then been arrested and the Guam police set up for a first class plane ticket before Hurly bought the rest and all that..but maybe. And when Desmond asked Widmore for Faradays' mom's address..did they tell us WHEN he did that? People keep saying it is impossible for Desmond and Penny to sail to Los Angeles that fast...but im not sure why people think he had to do it "fast"? That could have been months ago when he talked to Widmore, right?

Maybe she DID teach him. You'd guess some woman probably took Ben under her wing. Hmmmmm, who could that be? Juliette perhaps after she went to the past? That would explain why we saw a painting of what looked like Juliette hanging on the wall in Ben's house. Maybe she stayed in the past and helped to raise Ben. Or maybe she flashed out of Dharma time or died after bonding with a young Ben. That of course could cause some additional emotional issues for Ben triggering some sort of Oedipal issues in Ben when she came to the island in the future. Ben may have felt guilty about "killing" both of his mothers, and that's why he hoped to drill Juliette in the future. Drill baby drill!

Im sure alot of the MEHness of this for some people is that it was 06 centric, even Jack centric, and never went to the Island really...no more timetravlley wowness...it was pretty straightforawrd (in a very obscure way!) The reason i like it alot is because it explained some questions that i had (the whole Christian sneaker thing was cool), it explained more of the Lampost and how the Island tracking works...and it set up a MAJOR portion of the character arcs which is extremely important. The roles between Jack and Locke, Jack coming to terms with his father and the father figure of Locke. His faith being tested, etc. The story of the saint mirroring Jack's conflict... It actually made Jack a more important character again to follow, which is good! (he had been regulated to the "i'll save him!", brat role for awhile...now we see im has the black/white stone of Yin to Lockes Yang). And we get intrigue about how exactly all these other characters got onto the plane..and what happened to them...and we got the WTF moments at the end with the new crash mirroring the old one with unexpected characters being there. Sure, it doesnt have the sparklyness of the first few episodes witht he action packed wonkiness of island skipping...but this one has alot of meat in it to chew. Its always good to have episodes like this as a counterbalance. Im looking forward to the Sayid, Kate, Hurly versions of this 316 story.

Sayid was being arrested for a crime he commited in Guam (assissination?) thats why he was being escorted out of the country. I was thinking Ben may have turned Sayid in for a murder that Ben himself had Sayid do, because that was the only way he would have been able to get Sayid on that plane. And that way they have the marshall-type person too. Anyone have a cap of that painting in Ben's house? I'm curious if it resembles Jill the butcher at all.

What if she sent him to Cassidy to be with Sawyer's girl? She knows Sawyer set her up financially and she could probably move some of her assets to Cassidy, ands Cassidy has been laying low. Then if Kate and Sawyer ever get back off the Island, she would know where to go........

Sayid: I agree with other posters that he was probably turned in by Ben for an assasination in Guam. Hurley: not sure, but he obviously knew what was going to happen on the plane, so maybe Ben told him that many people would die on the plane if he wasn't on it? That's why he bought all those tickets, just to make sure the amount of innocent people hurt or left stranded on the island was minimised? Also he might have told him that his friends would be hurt on the plane if he didn't come along, i.e., if the recreation of Flight 815 isn't perfect then Jack, Kate, etc. will all die on the plane. It may turn out that Ben told him that he had to bring Charlie's guitar along ... although I'd be suprised if the Ghost of Charlie didn't show up in some way in Hurley's backstory. Kate: I am amazed at how many people here think she sent Aaron away willingly! Surely there must be some blackmail going on from Ben here. My guess is he either kidnapped Aaron outright, and told Kate he'd kill him or bring him back to the island if she didn't cooperate, or simply forced her to hand Aaron over to some surrogate by telling her that his people would hurt Aaron if she didn't go back to the island.
