Another solid night for "Big Brother" and "The Amazing Race" led to yet another ratings win for CBS.
The ratings lead this summer averaged a 6.4 rating/11 share Tuesday night to beat NBC, 4.8/8, by a comfortable margin. ABC took third at 4.2/7, edging FOX's 4.0/7. The WB averaged 2.2/4 and UPN 1.7/3.


CBS also led among adults 18-49 with a 3.5 rating. FOX, 2.9, was second in the ad-friendly demographic, followed by NBC at 2.7. ABC averaged 2.2, The WB 1.2 and UPN 0.9.
A repeat of "NCIS," 6.3/11, won the 8 p.m. hour for CBS. FOX's "Trading Spouses" dropped off some from last week but was still a solid second at 5.1/9. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 4.8/9, put ABC in third. NBC reran last week's "Last Comic Standing to take fourth place. Reruns of "All of Us" and "Eve" averaged 1.6/3 for UPN, just beating a "Gilmore Girls" repeat on The WB.

"Big Brother 5" kept CBS in the lead at 9 p.m. with a 6.3/11. NBC moved up to second with a new "Last Comic Standing," 4.7/8. ABC stayed in third with "According to Jim," 4.5/8, and "Less than Perfect," 3.9/6. FOX slipped down to fourth with repeats of "That '70s Show" and "Quintuplets," barely beating "Summerland," 2.8/5, on The WB. Most viewers decided they did, in fact, hate "The Player," which managed only a 1.7/3 for UPN in its premiere.

At 10 p.m., NBC's "Law & Order: SVU," 6.8/12, beat "The Amazing Race," 6.6/11, in household ratings, although CBS had the edge in total viewers. "NYPD 24/7" posted a 3.7/6 for

The evening got started for FOX at 8 p.m. with back-to-back episodes of "Cops" averaging a 3.8/9 for the hour. Although the rest of its night went poorly, ABC began in second with the first half of the Julia Roberts' movie "Mystic Pizza," 2.8/6. CBS third with a reairing of Tuesday night's "Amazing Race 5," 2.6/6, and NBC was fourth with the first half of its movie, "The Replacements," 2.4/5.
