I read in the NY Post this morning that TAR was 5th OVERALL for the week of 7/24 - 8/1

Did the New York Post just predict that the Democratic Party convention nominated Wesley Clark instead? :giggle. Just kidding. |

EPISODE 5 consistently holds the ratings!!
Quote:[/b] So not as much as episode three, but more than the premiere and more than last week. TAR is continuing to be consistent...unlike any other season! |

That's disappointing: a repeat of a second tier Law & Order show beats TAR.
TAR probably needs above a "7" to keep its Tuesday slot in the fall. |

The thing that you don't realize is that this is the only season it's been doing great consistently and really hasn't been a roller coaster. I've been reviewing ratings of other seasons and people were braggin because the finale of the fourth edition brought in 6.1/11 or something like that...which this season has brought EVERY SINGLE EPISODE.
I don't think it's going to keep it's spot for the fall and I doubt the ratings will be THAT good in the saturday time slot...but if the finale does well (which, since it's airing during regular programming, it'll truly be a test of the staying power of TAR) then I have no doubt they'll switch Clubhouse with TAR. |

The season's ratings according to Fast National.
Episode 1: 6.5/11 Episode 2: 6.4/11 Episode 3: 6.9/12 Episode 4: 6.1/10 Episode 5: 6.6/11 Encore 1: 2.1/6 Encore 2: 2.7/7 Encore 3: 2.3/5 Encore 4: 2.6/6 --------- Ok, every show's ratings were down during the convention week, but, IMHO, now the Episode 3 ratings look like something of a fluke. I think people tuned in en-mass once they heard that Alison lost. (Also Look at how much higher the EP2 repeat did). I think people really tune-in to see contestants like Alison lose (hey, she's a draw). Meanwhile, the show is looking consistent in its ratings, just not at the higher EP3 levels that some of us hoped for. |

I think a simple explanation between the link of the Tuesday episodes and the Saturday episodes is that people are obviously using it to catch up with an episode they missed (which is what they are for).
Encore 4 got a lot of viewers for the repeat because a lot more people missed the original airing. Episode 3 had almost premeire level-ratings because most of the audience saw the third episode. I predict the encore will get around a 2.3-2.4 rating. |

I remember when only we hardcore seemed to know about TAR. Great that it is growing but kind of weird our little secret gem has caught on and we have to share it with the unwashed masses now, har.

The reairing was, at least, consistent.
Quote: Not too bad, I guess...but even BB did horrible in the ratings on Sat. That just doesn't look good if they put it on Saturdays for its 6th edition...it could seriously kill the franchise and ruin the momentum this season has given the show. |

In Canada its bizarre,
on Saturdays we get TAR on CTV at 5pm, then its on at 8pm on CBS with BB at 9pm. I'm curious if the original episodes airred at 8pm instead of 10 pm how they will do. I have a lot of co-workers who tape the damn thing on Tuesdays and then watch it after work on Wednesday's, which is a bitch cause I can't talk about it with them until a day later. Seriously, do those ratings capture people who tape shows for later viewing? |

The strong household ratings for TAR are good news...
but the even better news is how well it's performing in the 18-49 category. Because, folks, in the end that's what really matters. The networks in large part only care about viewers in this age range, because that's who advertisers want to reach. (CBS says they aim for 25-54 viewers... nearly the same thing.) It's especially good since Amazing Race is on CBS, which is the "oldest" network in terms of viewership. They are always anxious to do whatever they can to lower that average age, so if TAR can do it for them, they'll keep it on the schedule. |

Updating the chart.
Episode 1: 6.5/11 Episode 2: 6.4/11 Episode 3: 6.9/12 Episode 4: 6.1/10 Episode 5: 6.6/11 Episode 6: 6.7/11 Encore 1: 2.1/6 Encore 2: 2.7/7 Encore 3: 2.3/5 Encore 4: 2.6/6 Encore 5: 2.6/6 --------------------- Problem with these numbers, is that they've leveled off, and they aren't good enought to bump "judging amy" just yet. TAR remains set for Saturdays in the fall. I like TAR, but I am young and have a social life, and if the show is on Saturdays, I woln't get to watch it. |

Also, across the board, The Amazing Race is critically hailed as one of the most captivating reality shows out there.
Now, I know that a lot of the times, networks totally ignore the critics and just look for the ratings...But, combined with the substantial viewership for a summer show... It has a chance. And I honestly much prefer TAR in the summer, just because I know I'll get to watch it. |
