WTF Turbotax |
Lead | |

Heard starting this year they were charging for each tax return even just to print. Then rescinded? So does anyone know exactly? I might jump to H&R
Block's Tax Cut.

Timothy Geithner uses TurboTax.
How's that for an endorsement? |

You know I used turbo tax again this year, and at first I was getting a rebate. Minor rebate, but a rebate. It got rejected by fed because I didn't add in
the $600 stimulus check from last year. I resubmitted it with that check included and now I owe. And get this when you add the rebate I would have gotten
before I enteredt the check, plus now what I owe it comes to $600. So the feds cut me the stimulus check and now are asking for it back. What then is the
point of that check? Anyone else run into this?

That happened last time too. It wasn't a rebate - it was an advance on your tax return. This is why I hated Bush and his LIES.

Y'all are retarded. They were factoring in that you had not gotten a stimulus check, and if your situation had changed this year, then you would be
eligible for that back payment this year. By saying that you hadn't received it, they then were giving you $600. But since you went back and put that you
had received it, they didn't give you it. It's not like they're taking it away.
I bet you voted Obama too. |

I paid a total of $50 this year, $15 for the basic service (which includes transferring your '07 stuff and other options) and $35 for state filing. I
didn't try printing but I haven't printed anything the last few years because TT keeps all of that on file.
And thanks to having a crappy job and the EIC I'm getting back nearly twice what I put in this year. Yay for mooching. |

At least y'all have your W-2s. We were told that we weren't getting ours until 11:59PM on the internet on the 31st and that we shouldn't be
expecting a mailed copy before 6 February.

Oh shit son, I got my W2, got it filed and accepted back on the 16th. It won't get posted until Feb 1, but that's the earliest you can get it, so
that's fine.
Anti, aren't you a little old to get an EIC? How can anyone support themselves and still qualify for EIC? Does your mommy claim you as a dependant. |

EIC is for either 25-64 or 25-34, I can't remember which. Basically it's like welfare except I'm shielded from the guilt by the fact that I'm
just clicking buttons on a computer screen.

Economic Stimulus Payments Tax Free
Economic stimulus payments are not taxable, and they are not reported on 2008 tax returns. However, the stimulus payment does affect whether a taxpayer can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit and how much credit he or she can get. The credit is figured like last year's economic stimulus payment except that the amounts are based on tax year 2008 instead of 2007. A taxpayer may qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit if, for example, she did not get an economic-stimulus payment or had a child in 2008. See Fact Sheet 2009-3 for details. In most cases, the IRS can figure the credit. The instructions for Forms 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ have more information. From the IRS website |

So far I'm getting back all my estimated payments, plus $300 from the rebate since I didn't get anything last year, plus the tax withheld on my
Inherited IRA. Foreign credits rock.
Except I owe more than I thought to Canookia. |

Are you talking about age?
EIC is for people under a certain income, I'm 23, and I would have had to stop working in about April to qualify, so umm, get a real job. |

Turbo Tax estimated I'm getting $1500 back this year. The IRS website's version said I should expect $900. I'm going with TT!!
|
|||
TequilaVaquero |

Did you get a stimulus last year? TT is a little better about deductions, so that could explain it.

I got $300 last year, TT said I got another $300 this year.

Yeah, that was what I figured. The rest are probably deductions (student loan interest possibly) that the federal site doesn't walk you through.

visman2002 wrote:You don't add the stimulus check, correct. But there was an error that auto-popped up when e-filing with the IRS, when you input a different amount other than what the IRS has on record, your e-filed return would get rejected. The best way to check the amount that the IRS has on record is here: IRS How Much Was My Stimulus Payment passionatepiscesman, turbotax deluxe w/ state and e-file allows 5 returns/e-files with a downloaded state. It was initially 1 return with a $15 charge for every return after (a ripoff) but intuit changed it (thankfully). |
