By the way, we are putting together a second Historians podcast next week. Are there any topics from Borneo you would like to hear us talk about? I think we are going to do one season per podcast from now on.

And with regards to Naonka, normally I'd understand kind of liking a sort of vile person for entertainment's sake, but Naonka's just absolutely unpleasant and uncomfortable to watch. And she REALLY is the type that should have been cast for Big Brother instead of Survivor.

Well to be fair, Randy can't really stand Survivor anymore either. We tend to think alike on a lot of things.

Looking forward to the next podcast! The first one was great.

Some topics and questions -

Where did the cast come from? How did they know to apply? Were they recruited?

Probst as host. Where did he come from? Why did Burnett hire him? Did he do a good job as host of Borneo?

Pagong's "strategy" after the merge and what they thought was going to happen. Did any of them have an endgame plan?

The jury votes. Why Rich over Kelly? Did jurors change their mind after hearing Rich/Kelly answer their questions? Did jurors really feel bad for Kelly after Sue's speech? What could Kelly have done differently to beat Rich or vote a different way to end up as winner? General reaction from the public at the time to the vote, Sue's question, etc. would be fun to hear about as well.

If Borneo had a fan favorite vote, would anyone have beaten Colleen?

This one inspired by a Reality TV Hall of Shame article about "The Very First Pagonging":

The real question is how Pagong got so easily Pagonged. They had a number of smart people on their tribe. So why didn’t they see it coming?

Well, one of them did – and he probably wouldn’t even be included in most people’s list of the “smart people” I referenced above. In the sixth episode, Joel suggested forming an alliance. He, along with Gervase, Jenna, Colleen, and Greg, all discussed how they should stick together after the merger and vote against specific Tagi members. Gretchen refused to go along. She apparently felt it should be every person voting for the one who most deserved to go. Honorable notions, to be sure, but Survivor is a game, and games have different rules than real life.

Bad as they were, their strategic savvy is lightyears ahead of what we're seeing 12 years and 23 seasons later. And based on casting strategies, which have eschewed Boring But Practical in lieu of (supposedly) Awesome But Impractical, that's not a coincidence, either. I'm curious to hear what they would have considered, having the opportunity to go back in time armed with the wisdom and history of today but not their season-specific resources.

you don't remember the casting call in 1999 about a bunch of people on an island? it was eye-rolling. what are they going to do kill one another?

probst was a host on VHI's Rock n Roll Jeopardy.

Rudy would give Colleen a run for her money. It's a toss up.

there were lots of endgame plans that we just didn't see. Gervase was aligned with Rich at one point. Jenna and Greg were against one another for days, Jenna thought she had a woman's alliance with Sue, Kelly and Colleen.

Colleen and Kelly almost rowed out and mutinied Sean's reward but were stopped.

And there were tons of strategies -it's just that alliances are so blueprinted into our consciousness. Gretchen was playing invaluable hardworker, Gervase was using charm, Greg using hardcore mindgames. CBS had hidden scenes up on their website and in the second episode Colleen said she's going to be the "yes" man and slide under the radar. I think it's almost like you'd have to design a new game every season to see how people really play and adapt in a raw element to find out who the best manipulator is - how good were people like Lex, John C, Amanda, Amber, Todd etc etc without plugging in plans from a template they could study and most of the other players are in the same mindset? Some (like Russell, Tina and Sugar) are just natural manipulators no matter what situation they're in, but others are just following a fairly predetermined pattern.

Have you set a date? I actually want to relisten to the first show so I can come up with some topics I personally would like to hear about.

So the historians podcast will now focus on just one season at a time? Does that mean that the one you just recorded will be solely about Borneo?

For Outback, do you remember all the rumors/hoaxs regarding the "injury"? I seem to remember everyone hearing that Rodger fell off a horse before we actually saw Skupin's nosedive into the fire (I think you touched on this in the first podcast) . But I remember coming across a fake CBS web page that said Alicia was bitten by a crocodile. Do you have any recollection of this? I remember it vividly ... whoever mocked it up had the details down to a T.

Okay Survivor Historians #2 is posted. This time we spent the entire show talking about Borneo. From this point on we will just do one season per episode.
