I thought it was pretty clear that Faraday has been time traveling before. Last season we saw him with the memory problems (similar to those that Charlotte seems to be having). Then there is all of the info in his journal, how could he have recorded it if he hadn't experienced the island before. The best evidence of course came last night when we say him during construction of the Orchid Station which took place in the early 70's. I am assuming that was part of his independent time travel, not what is happening to our people currently. Source

Why the O6 had to lie... The island is unknown and Whitmore has been after the island for years. Since the island is only known about by a few people... IF the world found out about it and the powers of the island it would make it much more difficult for Whitmore to find it and possess it himself... the O6 must lie to protect their friends. What I mean is... if the world knows about the island... it will become useless to Whitmore and everything ON the island also. Yes Whitmore is after the "Losties" but just imagine if the secret got out? What would Whitmore do to the island and everything contained there in? Also... could the whispers be from other people in the past? Not necessarliy the "Losties who have been jumping back and forth through time? Based on the transcripts of the whispers... non of it sounds like the "Losties". Who else is jumping through time... and is it their whispers we are hearing? Or is it the island whispering?

Bingo. It can't be just about Widmore. I think there are three reasons to lie. 1.Widmore and what he could do to the 6 (and their families) and those left behind (when he finds the island again.) 2. Because Locke told Jack to protect the island. 3. Prevent the whole damn world from learning about the island. That'll open up a whole big ass can of worms to have thousands of people looking into this mysterious island. And imagine what everyone will go through if they tell the truth. By everyone I mean not just the O6, Desmond, Frank, island survivors, but the families of those people and the families of the ones that died/were killed on the island. The truth would make their lives a living hell. That encompasses everything that happened from day one. Forget the crazy shit like Smoky, purple skies, hatches, whispers, Black Rock, etc - The world would know Desmond caused Kelvin's death, Walt's father murdered 2 people, Locke basically caused Boone's death, Ana Lucia shot Shannon, even Hurley became a killer.. and on and on...

Maybe he meant Oxnard, that's near LA.

Which means the island is afraid of Desmond too. Why? Cause of what Dr. Dan said. Hes special, gifted. He can actually, p;ossibly, go outside the rules of fate with his abilities. And Ben and the old lady are ALL about trying to keep things the way they are "supposed to happen" Which is why the island wants those 6 back. They werent supposed to leave. Bad things will happen if they cant get back and complete destiny. This shows core is about the fight between fate and free will. How much one can truly change their fate, if at all. Dan's theory (and his mom's) is that its impossible. EXCEPT maybe unless a special person gets involved? If Dan's mother was sooo certain that fate cannot be changed no matter how hard you try (which is what she told Desmond) then why did she seem so anxious when talkign to him? why did she basically threaten Desmond not to try and change the inevitability of fate...cause she thinks he might actually be able to, thats why. Otherwise, why bother confronting him with the threat? Also why the island doesnt want him back like the others. Heck, he even tried to stop charlie from dying like he was supposed to...Charlie still died, but by trying to stop it, he actually let Charlie do something to help the 6 get off the island in the first place...something that WASNT supposed to happen... Phantom. Your explanation is appreciated and highly plausible, although I still see some holes. The theory that Ben (and Mrs. H) want those 6 back because it is their destiny to stay on the island just seems too simple considering Ben's history. He's an evil and reckless dude, and always has some personal motive, something more than saving the world or saving the Losties, so I have a hard time believing that he is only carrying out the island's wishes or assisting in a "course correction". If those 6 weren't supposed to leave (and Desmond and Walt were supposed to because they are special and above the rules), then why didn't Ben or the island stop the 6 from leaving in the first place. To teach them a lesson? To make it their decision to return? Maybe. But what about Aaron. If the island needed him, why not keep him in Claire's custody when feeding her the Kool-Aid. Ben not only let them all leave he encouraged it. And the island itself has a history of killing people, including those who have reached their redemption point (Boone, Shannon) and those who are in the way somehow (pilot, Mr. Eko), so why not just hire smokey the monster to destroy the helicopter before it leaves? I suppose we can chalk a lot of it up to destiny being "a fickle bitch" (still one of my favorite quotes from last season), but I'm not ready to accept destiny, or "the island made them do it", or Jacob the omnicient told Ben and Locke to let everyone go before calling them back, as the convenient explanation for all of this. To me, it's equally plausible (albeit more cynical) to believe that the only reason the Oceanic 6 got off the island was to give the writers a change of scenery and a new set of story lines to work with.

The one word of advice I want to give and take it for what you will - as a diehard Hereos fan (although diehard becomes too strong of a word by the day), I would plead with all of you to not try and make complete sense out of the time travel. I think Damon and Carlton will do the best they can, but there will always be inconsistencies and things to nitpick - it is too hard of a plot device to perfect. No can do. I can't just ignore inconsistencies and wrongness (for lack of a better word) just because they want me to. If this turns into a Heroes-esque clusterfuck, I'm out. And I hate the whole "Lost has certain time travel rules except for Desmond who the rules don't apply to". Fuck that. There's either rules or there aren't. If only certain people have to "follow the rules", then you may as well not have them because you can still use those certain people as an excuse to fix a fuck up without having to actually do anything. I hate it. And I don't need 20 posts "explaining" it to me, because I get it. I just don't like it. Ben not only let them all leave he encouraged it. Not exactly. He's not so much changing the past as he is changing Desmond's present. But I think if Daniel does it too much, Desmond's nose might start to bleed.

LOL One thing I caught right away was when Daniel said that the "Rules" of Time can not be changed. This made me think of when Ben said that Widmore had changed the "Rules" after Alex died. Ben also told Locke that the one who moves the island can't go back, yet Ben is planning on doing just that. Ben is always up to something! I'm convinced that Ben was the client that wants to check the relationship between Kate and Aaron, and I wouldn't put it past Ben to have had Nadia killed in order to pull in Sayid. My golden rule about Ben : if he is speaking, he is lying. Thus, I don't believe Widmore had Nadia killed. I don't believe that Ben can't return to the island.
