Ah, yeah, now I remember that douche.

I thought at first y'all were talking about the last ep with a different Gabe. 20something Indian (from India) kid who was adopted at age 3. Said all he remembered was being at the airport and being given balloons and toys. Then he goes on and on about being left on the streets of Calcutta to die and all the suffering he went through as a street child and that was what caused his depression and suicidal thoughts and drove him to use. But, uh, dude, you said all you remembered was being at the airport so you don't remember the suffering you went through.

Now, I'm a Christian but his adoptive folks were a bit off the charts. Ultra conservative Christians. Mom wasn't too bad, but Dad kept saying that while everyone else called it a sickness all he saw was sin. And when Candy tried to explain it to him he just shook his head. So Candy asked him to at least not be judgmental during the intervention, just talk to him and let him know he loved him and not judge. And then what does Dad do? Same old crap, talking about how there are consequences for poor choices and how they've had this same conversation many times before. Cut camera to Candy who is rolling her eyes and shaking her head.

But the kid did go. And Mom and Dad went to 12-step meetings as well. Hopefully someone there can get across to Dad that it is a disease and not "just sin."

And hopefully Gabe can "forget" all the suffering he endured that he doesn't even really remember.

People don't necessarily have to remember a trauma to be affected by it though. I don't doubt for a moment that Gabe's past probably helped shape him. But I think his adoptive parents (mostly the dad) are the biggest reason for his depression. I feel sorry for super-religious people like the parents who are so narrow-minded that they can't be receptive to anything other than what they think is the truth.

Don't disagree with ya, fluffy. His past no doubt helped shape him. But the fact that he was pinpointing that as "the reason" is why I call BS. How in the hell could he know that was what was causing it? If he had said "maybe" or "could be" or something, but it was if he found an excuse and "AH HA! NOW I HAVE A REASON!"

I will say, in his defense, that I have absolutely no clue about how being adopted might feel. So I'll give him a pass on that, particularly since Candy (my unabashed fave intervener) also co-signed on it.

And I'm with ya 100% that his folks had a big hand in it, mostly Dad.
