it'll break down in several factors:
1. Physical Design
2. Abilities
3. Personality
4. Awesomeness.
But to start, characters who I think are interesting but since I haven't played their games at all/enough they will not ranked.
Dante: Devil May Cry 1/2/3/4 (PS2/PS3) / Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (PS2)
I played about one or two levels of DMC1 and I just never got into the game plus I hated having to run through that fucking castle for the entire game. I'm now playing DMC4 to discover almost the exact.same.thing.happens. However Dante does show up in that game so it's very possible I'll enjoy playing as him. Especially since he has the physical/shooting/magic abilities that are a recurring theme in my rankings.
Quistis: Final Fantasy 8 (PSX)
Similar to DMC I was slowly getting bored with this game and it didn't help that it wanted me to do a timed challenge which is one thing I loathe doing in games next to hiding. (OMG GASP!! I didn't like FF8? I must be a heathen hater) so I stopped. Now I find out that Quistis was a Blue Mage !!#%$#! and now I am sad.
Travis: No More Heroes (Wii)
I don't know much about this game but I know I want to play.
Sooooo onto the my list!!
50: Max Guevara: Dark Angel (PS2)

This game came out around the time that Dark Angel got canceled for Firefly (which later got canceled for being shit.) so I was fairly excited. Who didn't want to play in a world created by James Cameron figuring a sassy Jessica Alba? Not me, I eagerly rented the game (I rarely buy games new) very early I learned that they for some reason decided to let Max use a gun (something the real one would never do.) As well they had way too many fucking stealth challenges (level 3 is far too early for one) that fade into a ridiculous time challenge when you get caught. As well one of the early boss battles with a fucking beetle man. Who shoots green shit/venom/stuff at you. Also the 3D model of Jessica read more like Jennifer Garner than Jessica. I did feel the moveset was good though...
49: Experiment 626/Stitch: Disney's Stitch: Experiment 626 (PS2)

Don't let the title fool you this is actually a prequel to the original film. The weird thing being though that the game for some odd reason calls him Stitch and he refers to himself as Stitch at least once despite the fact that being a prequel. Despite being a game it does set up a few things that are carried through in the extended universe (like Hamstervile for Stitch the sequel and Stitch needing a charge for Stitch has a Glitch even if they were slightly off and the whole 621 being different in the animated series). Why is it so low? Because the only reason people like Stitch is the growth he makes in the movie. Having a prequel (a partial prequel/movie game would have been a lot better) leaves us with the cruel souless 626 which is only interesting when you know he's going to make the change. Since the game doesn't end with him on Hawaii, what the fuck is the point? Despite the fact Stitch is one of my favorite characters ever, this game just disappointed.
48: Xena: Xena, Warrior Princess (PSX)

Talk about a blast from the past. It doesn't hold up very well but the game is fun, the enivornments are very expensive, and the easter egg on the Minotaur episode still amuses me. Saying this, I never did get around to figuring out how to do the bicycle kick besides the one random time (Nor can I find any reference to it online). Also the graphics are terrible compared to today's standards, it doesn't even have the fun "Vintage NES is Vintage" feel to it. Despite being a PSX game, I still enjoy this game. However I enjoy playing as the others more so she is 48.
47: Stun, the Insect: Bloody Roar 2, 3, Xtreme, 4... eh several (PS2/GC)

My first fighting game. Stun is a rather interesting character that shows up playing in the following games. For those who have never heard of the series, it's about these people who have the ability to turn into what furries dream about. That's right, you can fight as a furry. In his case, he's a bug but most of the players are furries. I've played him in only 2 and 3. His character design stems from his origins of being subjected to some chemical and he has to take a serum to maintain his current state, basically he's all fucked up. He walks silently but carries a big stick and by stick I mean his beast form. He's a fairly slow character but if you can work with his style you can kick some serious ass.

And that's my first update. I plan to do another tonight.
