Steve Buscemi ("The Sopranos," "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry") and Kelly Macdonald ("Trainspotting," "No Country For Old Men") are in talks to star in HBO's pilot for "Boardwalk Empire," produced and directed by Martin Scorsese from a teleplay by Terrence Winter ("The Sopranos").
"Boardwalk," about the rise of gambling in Atlantic City in the 1920s, is based on the book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and
Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson.
The Hollywood reporter describes:
Buscemi would play Nucky Johnson, a cunning businessman who runs a liquor distribution ring at the onset of Prohibition.
The Scotland-born Macdonald would play Margaret, a smart Irish immigrant who married the wrong man to get out of her parents' house.
The pilot marks Scorsese's first non-documentary directorial effort for television since the 1986 "Mirror Mirror" episode of "Amazing Stories" starring Sam Waterston.
