There have been a lot of shows about a lot of things, but I can think of no show that stands as a better example of hope than Summer Heights High (use that
as a pull quote, HBO, and I'd cut your balls off if you still had any).
Anyone who has any hope of ever getting on TV now has a tangible reason to keep chasing the dream. No talent? No problem.
Summer Heights High is supposed to be a comedy in the spirit of Tracey Ullman and Ali G. Instead it serves as proof that anyone can get a deal with HBO these
days. The pre-show voice-over promised a comedy, but what followed was something I could neither laugh at nor with. This show doesn't succeed as comedy,
parody, satire or any other measure of success. It's just bad.
So if you're hoping to break into the biz, your odds appear to be very good. Create an Ozzie background for yourself and you're golden. Just cash the
check quickly.

This is one of my favorite comedies of all time, even if that makes me some cretin.
Watch as many episodes as you can in order, the show ratchets up the humor as the season and the characters' stories progress. |

Jonah (FOB!) and Ja'mie (private school girl bitch). Maybe Mr. G is a bit OTT, but still, frakkin hilarious.

I taught in Australian schools for 25 years, three in the government school system, and find the show absolutely hilarious. I taught many Jonahs, but my Jonahs
were Italian or Greek. The portrayal of Jonah is uncanny in its accuracy of a teenage male 'wog'. I've known smarmy girls like Ja'mie, though
never taught in a girls private school, since they were girlfriends of the boys I taught in an exclusive Perth college. Both the boys and girls were rich
fucktards. Worst teaching experience in my 25 years. Now Mr G. ... what can I say? Anyone who has taught in a secondary school in Australia, has known at least
one like him! The layout of the school brings back memories of over thirty years ago. Nothing changes.
The damn series makes me homesick! |

Jonah is a crack up. He makes the show. His jizz stained break dancing pants had me on the floor. His father looks like he's going to be a great character
too. Chip off the old block Jonah is!
Ja'mie and the little kid from year 7(?) was funny and terribly disturbing all at once. |

The teacher is hilarious, especially when we was trying to write songs to the girls overdose. Ecstacy, Ecstacy, Ecstacy!
All three of the characters are hilarious. I'm glad that I stumbled onto this show. |

I absolutely freaking LOVE this show. Yes, Mr. G is nothing more than an Australian Corky from Waiting for Guffman, but the detail is amazing. I grew up in
Southern California and so these experiences are pretty universal. It's great how he peppers in real kids and the other teachers feel like real teachers.

I downloaded the rest and just finished the series. It's amazing.
The DVD is out in February. I hope it has a ton of bonus features. |
