Since I did my best to keep up with the special guest thread on the main Spoilers board, I thought I would repost some of that info here. Disclaimer: This is not a complete summary.

First, my post "Rethinking Paul Hogan":

The Paul Hogan rumors have been plaguing this board for a long time, since what seems like very early in the season. Until now I dismissed anything on the topic as completely ridiculous. However, since Paul Hogan popped up on the early show this morning, I am rethinking the issue.

Let's see... "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" is being released by Paramount, which is owned by, you guessed it, Viacom. For those of you who aren't studied up on today's super-cross-promotional-conglomerations (ala AOL-Time-Warner), Viacom also owns CBS and therefore Survivor. Furthermore, had CBS not decided to push back the finale by one week by adding a clip show, the surprise guest episode would have aired last night, one day before the release of the movie. Hmmmm...

So this brings up some questions. Where did this Paul Hogan rumor come from, (other than the fact that he is one of the most identifiable Australian icons in pop-culture)? Where did the special guest rumors come from in the first place? Anyone remember?

I sincerely hope the guest is a family member and NOT some living, breathing advertisement, but I'm not convinced. What do you guys think?

One poster offered info on how the Paul Hogan rumors began:

Way back before any shows started airing, we had our first bullshit spoiler. Someone posted 11 specific things about the first several shows, and the whole thing was discredited in the first 30 seconds of the first episode.

However, one of that person's "spoilers" was that Paul Hogan would appear in the first two episodes of the show. Associating Hogan with a show in the Outback has been obvious from the get-go. It's so obvious that a smart guy like Burnett would reject it as being too trite.

On the topic of whether Croc 3 had finished filming, we had confirmation from roo33 (but no link):

...I've been looking too. I did find an article dated Nov 8, 2000 that said filming for C3 had been completed. Which means he probably could have returned to Australia for the S2 filming.

Although, I'm not yet sure the guest will be a celebrity, it may also help, if we could find links on the ones we think may be the guest, which put them in other places 11/28-11/30, so we can start narrowing it down.

Other popular (or at least vocal) choices on that thread are former Survivors (S1 and Mike), Steve Irwin, and Santa Claus:

Mike: So they can see he's okay. I personally don't buy this for a minute. This is not Big Brother, and MB will not allow an eliminated contestant to visit with a remaining contestant.

Sue: Gretchen was allegedly on this radio station www.mix1051.com/index2.html and mentioned that we will be seeing Sue again and then quickly tried to cover up. ...Sue in final 4...

Rudy: Final four, wears a red shirt. Combat Missions promotion? The ever loving popularity. Eric the donkey posted "The website: www.autoshowusa.com/lasve...vivor.html says that Rudy was a guest of honour at a function in Las Vegas on the 25th of November at night - which is the 26th of November Aussie time." Xrunner placed Rudy in the US visiting his mother in Rochester NY on Dec. 1 (Geesh, Rudy's mother is alive?) The episode covers Nov 28,29,30. Enough time?

Rich: Bring back the old winner to counsel one or all of the final 4. He has said it's not him. Some see this as a conflict of interest with his predictions for ET and the early show.

Santa Claus: He wears red. It's almost December. He brings the Survivors gifts including fresh clothes. (And I thought Paul Hogan was cheesey.)

Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter: Well known and currently popular Australian. Could help with snakes and spiders if the reward challenge is paired off. (Wears khaki -need I mention the short shorts- uniform at all times.)

Paul Hogan, Crocodile Dundee: Wears a red jacket. New movie, produced by a Viacom owned studio, released April 20th. Rumors that he was connected to the show. Denied doing a guest spot on Survivor, only agreed to do "promo-work."

ON THE RED SHIRT:

Someone, in the ariel photos of the camp, is wearing a red shirt or jacket. Also, someone in one of the helicopter seats (pilot side?) appears to be wearing red. However, Tina has a red or maroon jacket.
