Yes, it's the one about the advertising agency in the 1950s. To be honest it's not one of my favorite shows, but the critics have been slobbering over
it non-stop for the past two years. It also deals with many of the same issues and themes that RR does.

Revolutionary Road's problem is you didn't give two shits about these miserable yet incredibly articulate people, because you barely got to see them
when they were happy. Literally, three minutes of happiness, two hours of screaming and yelling and crying.
You're told all about these various promises they made, but you never heard the promises or saw the results of those promises in the first place. They were supposed to be 'different' than other couples. You are never shown that, not once. They only thing making them different is that they're two insufferable snobs who would have done moviegoers a great service had they died in a fiery accident during their argument on the highway. |

Rev. Rd. is still on my list, but only because of Kate. Otherwise, I'd skip it for sure. I'm not sure I want to see a movie about a couple whining
about how they don't like their domestic life. Is that all it is? They have kids right? Aren't kids supposed to bring you joy? If they don't,
aren't you just selfish???

I agree with Gregoire. It was nearly impossible to care for either of the leads in Revolutionary Road because there is a humongous argument literally 2 minutes
into the movie, and it doesn't let up until the very very end.

They have kids right? Aren't kids supposed to bring you joy? We're about as invested in the fate of the furniture as in the fate of the kids. In fact, I almost completely forgot they had kids in the movie. |

They really made an effort to show them as LITTLE as possible. BTW, whoever said RR's problem was that it has no plot should see Mad Men. Now THAT had no plot. I swear, nothing happens in the first 8 episodes of season 1 (nothing really important, anyway, and nothing that makes you want to keep watching). I liked the later bits of the season, and I want to see S2, but honestly, I have no idea why it recieves so much praise. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just I don't see what makes it so much better than other shows that it gets all these nominations, and wins "best TV drama" awards left and right. |

OK, so I saw THE WRESTLER today. Great film. Great performances. I seem to remember someone a few pages back complaining that there was no ending. You are an idiot. Also note BAFTA has gone 4/4 with the Oscars in the past 2 years when it comes to the Acting categories.Also note that more than half of the ballots have already been turned in, and very few Academy members pay attention to this group. |

The point is that there are BAFTA voters who vote in the Academy, and it reflects general sentiment outside of what people say in reviews and blogs.

Good point. Yay for Kate. I like those winners but I'd like to see MILK win BP. I'm ok with Rourke winning the actor award since seeing The Wrestler.
If he doesn't win then it better be Sean Penn.

The actor race reminds me of 2002, when Brody benefited from a vote split. I guess this year the Brody would be Langella, but it seems unlikely.
Um, and yeah, my point was that 15% of AMPAS are BAFTA members. And you'll notice that ever since 2000, BAFTA and AMPAS have always agreed on Actress (except for Berry, who was nominated a year late at the BAFTAs and Swank who was ineligible at the BAFTAs). Since 2001, they've always agreed on Supporting Actress. |

Here is who I think should win the major categories:
Best Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader I still think Sally Hawkins should win this for Happy-Go-Lucky but she wasn't even nominated. Did anyone see this movie and think she did bad? Or even average? I thought her performance as outstanding and thought at the very least she should have gotten a nomination. From the actual nominees, I would have to go with Kate for The Reader. Although I have actually heard mixed reviews about her performance (from friends, not critics), I sided with the critics. I thought she did I great job with such a complex character. Best Actor: Sean Penn, Milk I really enjoyed The Wrestler and Mickey Rourke's performance, but I have to give the edge to Penn. he was incredible in this movie, in my opinion. I think playing Milk is tough, and I thought Penn really did it well. He was so believable as his character. Rourke also did a great job so I wouldn't be too upset if he won. Best Picture: Milk or Slumdog Millionaire I still can't decided between the two. They were both really really great in my opinion. The only other movie that I can see coming close to winning this (or deserving to win it anyways) is Frost/Nixon. It is a close third in my book. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Reader are just not in the same league as the other three. I actually think The Wrestler was way better than either of them. I don't really know how I am going to make up my mind about which of Milk or Slumdog Millionaire is better, but I really loved both of them. I guess I'll have to watch them again. |

Yes, it is about seeing agreements and seeing what the general consensus is in the Academy. People who follow the Oscars don't follow the BAFTAs because
they think the speeches will affect how AMPAS members vote. They watch the BAFTAs to see who the strong British voting block in the Academy will support. I
don't see how the BAFTAs try to "predict" the Oscars, considering they rarely agree on Best Picture. Maybe you should let go of whatever bias you
have against the British voters before making such statements.
