Jesse Cottam has already earned some road scars as a touring musician. "I was in a Top 40 casino band in the States for two years. I toured all over the western U.S., played over 300 shows and learned so much from the other musicians."

Of all his accomplishments so far, in his mind, nothing compares to being a part of the Top 24 in Season 6. "It's complete and overwhelming excitement. I am still trying to wrap my head around it," he says. "This is the first real break I have had in this industry."

It's a break in the industry that almost didn't happen for Jesse, because he nearly didn't audition for Canadian Idol. Like Season 5 winner Brian Melo, it was the support and encouragement of his family that gave him the confidence to take the plunge. Their encouraging push helped lead Jesse to be among the first to get a Gold Ticket to the Toronto auditions, and eventually earn a spot in the Top 24.

Jesse counts bands like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and U2 among his favourites, and is a huge fan of Canadian rocker Ian Thornley, who has been an inspiration to him since he was 15. "He's got such an amazing energy," Jesse says. "His songwriting is at such an accomplished level, and he's an amazing vocalist. I can only hope to do the same with my career."

This year on Canadian Idol, Jesse wants to wow the crowd and always keep them on their toes. "I am an entertainer. I plan to entertain Canada and keep people guessing about what I'm going to do next. I want to connect with people and allow them to get to know me as an entertainer and a person."

While Jesse is determined to make it in the music business, he's always thinking about his long-term plan, "After my rock 'n' roll career, I will be joining the Seniors Tour for golf," he jokes. "I love golf!"
