And for whatever reason, The Amityville remake really creeped me out. Watching it on DVD, not so much...but I remember legitimately being scared after seeing it in the theatre.

As a young one, It the Terror From Beyond Space (the original Alien) scared me mightily. Just saw it and laughed. I was frightened by that? As for recent movies, not too much. I find the old B&Ws more effective.

I had nightmares after the first Nightmare on Elm Street, the rest suck ass. I thought Thirteen Ghosts and The Hills Have Eyes were pretty good as far as the scare factor goes.

Now that movie is just a ringer! A "Catholics are insane or they will make you insane ringer" but great nonetheless. I wonder what people are going to be remaking 15 years from now? Besides The Descent, will there be anything left to remake, reimagine, reboot? I feel kind of sorry for the last couple/few generations of young people who did absolutely nothing original that defined them as a generation. Sad.

I remember during the 70's when classics such as The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Jaws would make the nightly news due to people either fainting, vomiting or having heart attacks while viewing them in the theater. Of course back then the very idea of a possessed child, a family of cannibals and a murderous giant shark was original and never seen before. They shocked the nervous system. They struck unjaded audiences like a cannonball to the chest. These days they just crank out horror films like crappy Yugoslavian automobiles on an assembly line. Sure, they might give them a few shiny bolts and possibly a working radio that's capable of picking up FM, but the design is still the same, they break down easily and are hardly worth the money. S.

They figure if it worked once, it'll work again, thus all the remakes/reboots. Once in awhile we are treated to a great original horror film but those are rare. Still not all the remakes are horrible, once in awhile, you get a good one for the most part they are dreadful. Dead Silence sucked. It really is too bad because it had a couple of interesting and very creepy concepts. But otherwise, the story, characters and cheap scares sank it. Horrible.
