The Descent is probably one of the scariest films I saw in theatres, in recent years. I remember as a kid watching the movie, the Unameable, and it always scared me, more so the creature, I haven't seen the movie in over a decade but I'm sure the plot sucked.

I thought the remake of Dawn of the Dead was also well done. I had to watch something lighthearted after seeing House of a Thousand Corpses and Silent Hill.

When that giant deformed thing chased the girl through the dark underground tunnel, I was terrified. As a kid the original Fog always scarred me! Rewatching it, not so scary.

I'm probably the only person in the world who is still freaked out by Signs. On the other hand, Alien doesn't do a thing for me.

I have seen so many movies that people said were sooooooo scary, only to watch them and see that while there was much blood spilled, the movie was so terribly stupid that it was impossible to consider it scary. It's like people just don't bother to do anything original anymore when it comes to the horror genre.

I actually just heard of a spanish horror film called [REC] that is supposed to be absolutely fantastic, but it's not available in the states legally as of yet. They are remaking it for moronic US audiences though

Posts: 5319 06/08/08 02:43 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Horror is my fav. genre overall... some of my picks, in no particular order The Signal (effective & fun indie) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) The Shining (my very first horror, will always have a special place in my heart) The Blair Witch Project (saw it on opening weekend, knowing nothing about it) Ginger Snaps (great Canadian horror) Dawn of the Dead (remake) Poltergeist (classic... love the pool scene) The Hills Have Eyes (actually good for a remake) The Others (fun ghost movie) 28 Days & Weeks Later (both solid) American Psycho (really captured the comedy of Ellis) The Descent (no one gets out) Saw 1 & 2(the franchise sucks overall, but the first and second were quite good) Teeth (Vagina Dentata, baby) Cloverfield (I don't care what anybody says, I liked it) Last Edited By: shiza h minelli 06/08/08 05:48 PM. I still think the original Halloween is good and I actually liked the amped up version of Rob Zombies Halloween. That Michael Meyers was scary.

It's not as scary, but it's got a wicked wit about it that more than makes up for it. Also liked the Brit-slasher Severance. Looking forward to Doomsday when that eventually comes out on DVD, but I heard it's a trashtastic bust. I hope you're kidding, Marque, about the FD series. it's good fun, but scary? no. btw, for completely gore-free creepiness, check out The Legend of Boggy Creek.

I like stalker/suspense movies, or movies that feature fucked up ratty old houses. One that scared the SHIT out of me when I was younger was The Changeling. eta - I can't forget Let's Scare Jessica to Death. I saw it when I was 8 or something and even though it's almost funny now with the hippies and all, the vampires still scare the crap out of me.

But would it count as being a horror movie, though? I think the last really great horror movie I saw was Zombie's Halloween. I find myself drawn to his work now. I went back to saw his other two movies and they were both entertaining. Nightmare on Elm Street will always be my favorite franchise. I just saw the original Friday the 13th a few minutes ago...and I doubt I'll watch the others, 'cuz from my understanding...they get progressively worse. The Manhatten one was God awful.
