For Oliver Pigott, the elder of the Pigott brothers, the experience of competing on Canadian Idol this year won't be very different than the healthy dose of sibling rivalry he's already used to. "The best memory I have of my brother, Sebastian, is when I beat him at bowling because he stepped over the line," Oliver smirks. "Don't ask him, because he'll deny it - but I have witnesses."
If you do ask Sebastian you'll get a very different story, but it's part of the good humour the duo bring to Canadian Idol. If there is one thing you can learn from either brothers' account of the situation though it's that bowling is a very important Pigott family pastime.
For Oliver, having fun and not taking himself too seriously is a big part of what he feels will lead to his Idol success. "I want to show the viewers a good time," he says. "I'm really glad for the opportunity to continue working with so many talented people."
Oliver has lived in many places around the world, from London, England, to Praia Da Luz, Portugal, and Los Angeles. Being well-travelled has helped him learn more about what he feels is so great about being a Canadian musician. "We Canadians have such compassion and understanding," he says. "No one writes a song like we do!"
Famed musician Tom Waits is an inspiration to Oliver. "He does everything without reservation."
The experience of auditioning for Canadian Idol can be a taxing one that requires a lot of drive and determination. As always, Oliver has approached it with keen wit. "Sleep is overrated," he says jokingly of what he's learned so far from this experience. But it's an experience he's grateful for, that much is certain.

For Sebastian, competing in Canadian Idol with his brother, Oliver, will be an experience of a lifetime, as getting to play music together again is something he's looking forward to. But ask either of the Pigott brothers, and it seems like a playful rivalry has been renewed by competition - a rivalry that seems to have begun in a bowling alley some time ago
"I remember when my brother disqualified me from a bowling match because I stepped over the line with my toe. Everyone said it was stupid, but he insisted I kept doing it."
All bowling rivalries aside, Sebastian thinks that the experience of auditioning for Canadian Idol has made him a better and more confident musician, and he wants to bring a fun attitude to the competition. In fact, Jacob Hoggard's performances contained the energy that Sebastian would like to bring to his own performances this year. "He looked like he had a really good time, and that is really important."
Musicians like David Bowie and Jerry Lee Lewis are among Sebastian's favourites, along with the band Weezer.
Outside of music, Sebastian writes in his spare time. He's written a series of plays with a Toronto theatre company, acting in two of them and directing one. "Writing a play isn't all that different from writing a song. The best thing with writing is when you can just let it come out and not edit yourself too much."
On Canadian Idol, Sebastian knows that ultimately, family will always come before the competition. "Family is the most important thing, but being the best in the family is pretty good too."
The Pig(ott) Bros.
Born in Portugal, grew up in the UK, yet both speak "American". How odd.

Sebastian
Vocally, I prefer Seb over his bro. I don't know if I can handle his breathy and goat-like vibrato. Time will tell.
