At the start of Season 2, I had Bribs as the mole. I figured that the producers would be going with the unexpected choice (following Season 1's unexpected choice of having a young, innocent-looking woman as the mole). My ideal preference for the upcoming season's mole would either be a young, charismatic guy who "schmoozes the ladies" (ring a bell?) or a suave older lady (Myra).

But to answer your question, I think the selection of a woman as the mole is due to the perception that people have of women. Normally, you wouldn't think of a saboteur as being a woman (they don't have it in them and act solely on emotions, right?). To a certain extent, the same applies to an older man (especially one with a navy background - he can't possibly be a traitor, right?).

With the upcoming series essentially starting from scratch, I doubt we'll see the producers hire an obvious mole, both in looks and methods of sabotage. Having the mole be overt and relentless in their sabotage is a very risky plan (UK Mole 2, Aus Mole 4) but it can work under certain conditions (like if the new season is preceded by one that is still fresh in people's minds).

I was soooo hoping Bribs was the Mole as well...until stupid Katherine's stupid clues giving away the Mole in ep 4! "Bill is the Mole" how fucking obvious!
